    <div class="html-content"><span>Congratulations to MA TESOL student Elliott Eig!  He has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) scholarship to teach in Panama for the 2021-22 academic year.  Elliott was chosen from among more than 11,000 applicants for this year's competition cycle of the flagship exchange program sponsored by the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. As a Fulbright scholar, he will co-teach English as a foreign language at a Panamanian institution while serving as a cultural ambassador of the United States.</span></div>

    <div>Michele Stites and Shannon Sauro both were promoted to Associate Professor with tenure.</div>

<Title>LGBTQ+ Pride Month Art Submissions</Title>

    <p><span>Pride Month is
    approaching us. The Counseling Center would like to celebrate the LGBTQ+
    Community through your art submissions! The Counseling Center believes that
    self-expression supports thriving. Your art will be featured on our counseling
    center Instagram story and eventually in a highlight reel. Most art will be
    accepted. We ask that the art doesn't include nudity. We will contact you if
    there are any concerns about the pieces. If you would like to remain anonymous,
    that works too! Submissions will be taken from now and through June 18th. Posts
    will be featured June 1st through June 30th. QTPOC are encouraged to
    submit. </span><span>By

    <p><span><a href="https://www.naspa.org/events/civic-learning-and-democratic-engagement-meeting-2021#Schedule" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement (CLDE)</a> conference is organized by American Democracy Project (ADP) and NASPA to bring together faculty, student affairs professionals, senior campus administrators, students, and community partners. The theme for the 2021 virtual conference is “Defining the Path Forward.” </span></p>
    <p><span>On June 4th at 1.30 pm, Fariha Khalid, Samantha Fries, Faith Davis, and Erin Kosloski from UMBC will be presenting in a Civic Cafe Session at CLDE, “Improving Basic Needs Access on College Campus.” They will discuss the findings of a mixed-methods community-based research on food and basic needs insecurity among UMBC students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, they will highlight the role of Retriever Essentials in supporting vulnerable populations of our campus community. By the end of the session, participants are expected to understand the phenomenon of basic needs insecurity, share best practices to address the problem, and exchange knowledge/skills to form an ongoing network of resources.</span></p>

<Title>Library Reopening July 6th</Title>
<Tagline>Update on Library &amp; Gallery Services for Summer 2021</Tagline>

    <div>Beginning July 6, the first two floors of the Library &amp; Gallery will be open the following hours. Use will be primarily by appointment, with some walk-in services available.</div>

    </div>

    <div>Building access will be limited to UMBC users with a valid ID, using the card swipe. Per campus requirements, all users and staff will be required to wear masks while in the building, unless in private offices.</div>

    <div><strong>Services and spaces available without an appointment:</strong></div>

    <li>Return books to the Atrium book drop or the Check Out desk</li>
    <li>Return laptops or equipment to the Check Out desk</li>
    <li>Use a 1st floor library printer</li>
    <li>Use the 1st floor overhead scanner</li>
    <li>Use the Retriever Learning Center (The RLC will be open the same hours as the building. RLC furniture has been removed and spaced.)</li>

    <p>It's that time of year again to start the process for
    Elections 2021-2020!</p>
    
    <p>The following positions are up for election:</p>
    
    <p>President</p>
    
    <p>Vice President</p>
    
    <p>Treasurer</p>
    
    <p>Secretary</p>
    
    <p>Project Coordinator</p>
    
    <p>Advertising Manager</p>
    
    <p> </p>
    
    <p>If you wish to run for an admin position, check out our
    current positions and complete the following <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfCoP1ehlWcAOgsNk8QdFroyLrCvq6_4VbJSwOHJE8Sz2mP6A/viewform" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Google Form</a> by
    11:59pm est. on Monday, May 24, 2021. Descriptions for each of the executive
    positions are provided within the form. Once the May 24th deadline has passed,
    we will post the candidates' information and everyone will have a chance to
    vote during the official voting period which will be held May 25 - May 29,
    2021. </p>

    <p>Note: President, Vice President, and Treasurer are all
    mandatory positions for student organization renewal. If you are unsure at this
    time whether you are eligible for a position on the We Believe You Executive
    Board, we encourage you to still complete and submit an application. All
    applicants will have the opportunity to meet with a current executive board
    officer to discuss their application and/or answer any questions regarding the
    e-board positions and assigned duties/roles. </p>
    
    <p> </p>
    
    <p>For this election, we will be following and closely adhering
    to the recommendations provided by the Virtual Elections Guidelines from 2020,
    as well as guidance provided during the Mandated Annual Round Table for student
    organization officers.</p>
    <p><br></p>
    
    <p>What’s New? For this spring election, we will be trying
    something new which will include connecting with each candidate via phone/video
    conference and conducting a short 20-25min interview. If this is something you
    are not comfortable with, please indicate that on the application and we will
    find another way to connect with you that is accommodating to your preferences.</p>

    <p>We want to extend our deepest appreciation for your patience
    during this adjustment period and hope to secure the best accessible route for
    voting as possible during remote instruction. If you have any questions about

This annual event is designed to engage people around the world in talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion for people with different disabilities.
