<Title>Spring 2024 Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE)</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><strong>Applications for the Spring '24 MLE Cohort can be found <a href="https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScRf1jYuZb-4r6pHuwFRl1uDsv70D7t7-UeaQGyQTBG_sZLLA/viewform?usp=sf_link" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">HERE</a>. </strong></p><p><strong>The Multicultural Leadership Experience (MLE) is a collaboration between Campus Life and Initiatives for Identity Inclusion &amp; Belonging (i3B), that seeks to: </strong></p><p><strong>Engage participants in a multicultural development and leadership learning program; <br>Enhance participants' understanding of their social identities, leader identity, as well as their capacity to lead; <br>And enable participants' development through authenticity, self-awareness, relationships, and capitalizing on difference. </strong></p><div><strong><br></strong></div><div><span><div>The sessions are as follows:<div> </div></div><div><div>- Meeting #1: Monday, February 12th, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Meeting #2: Monday, February 19th, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Meeting #3: Monday, March 4th, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Meeting #4: Monday, March 25th, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Meeting #5: Monday, April 8th, 3pm - 4:30pm</div><div>- Meeting #6: Monday, April 22nd, 3pm - 4:30pm </div><div>- Meeting #7: Monday, May 6th, 3pm - 5:30pm</div></div><div> </div><div><span>***All sessions will take place in The Commons (room location will be specified in a Google calendar invite)***</span></div><div><br></div><div><div>Participants will be exploring the concept of Authentic Leadership, Legacy Building, and Breaking Barriers of White Supremacy within Leadership. We will do this in a leadership learning cohort by: </div><ul><li>Enhancing participants' leader identity and leadership capacity using an identity-conscious lens and student development theories;</li><li>Increasing participants' awareness of their personal abilities, identity development, and intersections that shape their story through authenticity, self-reflection, and cultural humility;</li><li>Exploring the role they play in developing relationships while building intra/intercultural connections; </li><li>And capitalizing on their differences, specifically in relation to their racial, ethnic, national, and other salient identity social groups</li></ul><div> </div><div>The purpose of all MLE programs is to provide a space for students and student leaders who identify within diverse or marginalized backgrounds to discover their own capacity to lead, while also promoting a better understanding of their experiences, issues, strengths, and outcomes in navigating their own collegiate careers. This is the most effective way to receive urgent updates for weather-related delays, closures, and campus emergencies. In addition to text alerts, we will also post alerts on both the UMBC homepage and myUMBC. </div><div><br></div><div>Please note that the decision to close campus or open late applies to the UMBC campus only. For community members not located on campus, please follow the protocols for your specific location. Decisions about Administrative Leave for all other employees will be made based on the weather conditions that day and communicated accordingly. </div><div><br></div><div>If campus remains open, please use personal judgment when traveling to and from campus as weather and road conditions vary by your personal location. The decision about whether it is safe to travel ultimately rests with each individual. Please be sure to communicate early and often with your supervisor should you have any concerns. Symposium, titled <em>Beyond the Veil: Making Sense of the Spirit World</em>, aimed to explore the history of human interaction (beliefs and practices) with supernatural, para-normal, mystic, and psychic phenomena, as well as the intersection of race, spiritualities, magic, mysticism and feminist expression with the otherworldly.
    
    The inspiration for the theme came from the Library’s Special Collections’ holdings, including the Eileen J. Caregivers help with things like personal care, household chores, managing money, arranging services from others, or regularly visiting to check on how they are doing.</span><span></span></p><p><span> </span></p><p><span><a href="https://umaryland.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_1Sb6Cei706L7zhQ" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">MCoC has developed a 15-minute online and anonymous survey that asks questions about the person being cared for and the caregiver’s knowledge of available programs and priorities for supports and services</a>. If you care for someone, they would appreciate it if you could take the time to complete the survey through the link below. <Title>International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2023 (UN)</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>December 1 is the <a href="https://social.desa.un.org/issues/disability/events/2023-international-day-of-persons-with-disabilities-idpd" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities</a>, honoring the United Nation's commitment for promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities - more than 1 billion people worldwide are in this demographic, the world's largest minority. The day raises awareness of the political, economic, social and cultural aspects <span>of </span>disability <span>that </span>affects people around the world. </p><p>The theme for 2023 is "united in action to rescue and achieve Sustainable Development Goals for, with and by persons with disabilities<span>.  The theme reflects recent consideration of the impacts of COVID-19, climate change, and the invasion Ukraine. <em>More information about the UN Virtual New York Commemoration event, including registration is linked here.  <a href="https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k1h/k1h0r7nh1w" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">To view the December 1 10a-1p activities remotely, click here at that time</a>.</em></span></p><div><br></div><div>Working toward an accessible future is everyone's responsibility.
