<Title>Advance Registration: It's On</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Students,<div><br></div><div>By now you should know that advanced registration has begun.  From October 28th to November 15th, all currently enrolled students can enroll in their Spring 2020 classes here at UMBC.  A few things to remember:</div><div><br></div><div><ul><li>Advising assignments for Econ were sent out in early October, on the 8th, 11th and 25th identifying your department or faculty advisor.  Check it. </li><ul><li>Generally, new and incoming freshman Econ majors are meeting with the Econ Dept. Advisor, Rob Pawloski.  All other Econ majors have been assigned a faculty advisor.</li></ul><li>Make an appointment with your department or faculty advisor soon to go over your schedule, check your degree audit, and get CLEARED for enrollment.  Be aware of your faculty advisors advising times, appointment schedules and office hours.</li><ul><li>Be professional: If you're going to miss or be late for an appointment, contact your advisor.</li><li>Please don't hover outside a faculty member's office seeing if you can get a quick clearance.  Again, check their policy.</li></ul><li>Check the <a href="https://registrar.umbc.edu/files/2019/10/Spring-2020-Undergraduate-Registration-Appointment-Grid.pdf" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Advanced Registration Appointment Grid</a> at this link to see when you are eligible to enroll in classes.</li><ul><li>Remember: You must first meet with your assigned advisor to get clearance, then you will be eligible to enroll in classes at your appointed time.</li></ul><li>Until then, you can search Spring 2020 classes to see what's available and when, and work with the college scheduler to see how it might all fit together.</li><li>It's a good idea to act as soon as you can to get the classes you want at the times that work best for you.  </li><li>On November 18th, registration opens up to all newly applying students.</li></ul><div>Any questions?  Check our website at <a href="https://economics.umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">economics.umbc.edu</a> or contact Rob Pawloski at <a href="mailto:robpawl@umbc.edu">robpawl@umbc.edu</a></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>R</div><div><br></div></div></div>

Summarizing the readings in digest or bullet point format. The summaries/digests should be approximately 50 words for each article.<br>3. One call of 30 minutes (perhaps occasionally more) per week talking with Mary Bush and offering further explanation of the articles that the digest covers.<br>4. An open email exchange with the student. This can be used, for example, if the student thinks that something should be called quickly to attention. Another example: if Mary Bush would like to prompt the student to locate articles or opinion pieces that offer further clarification or an alternative point of view.<br></p><span>There are several parts of the world - Europe, Asia, Middle East - that interest Mary Bush, but her intention are to narrow down the countries on which to focus.  As for the industries that are important for her business life, they are financial services, including credit card and FinTech, power and energy, hospitality and defense.</span><div><br><p>Mary Bush will provide a list of publications and institutions whose output should be regularly reviewed. This position can be a great learning experience for the collaborator(s) as it will give them the opportunity to also help interpret events and speculate about potential effects on the specific industries mentioned above, the US economy, etc.</p></div></div>

The group is responsible for researching and testing innovative methods to improve all phases of the survey life cycle, including frame development, data collection, data processing (including edit and imputation), evaluation and dissemination. </p><p> </p><p>The Demographic and Decennial Research Group works with internal and external stakeholders, sponsors, and data providers to improve decennial census collection efforts.
