M.S. in Global Commerce Program University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce

Join the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce on Wednesday, March 2nd for an introductory webinar to learn more about our M.S. in Global Commerce Program, a 10-month dual-master’s degree for recent business graduates looking to launch a global or less traditional business career.  

 

Students study and live together at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Lingnan (University) College in China, and ESADE Business School in Spain with a diverse cohort of 50-60 students from around the world. Students earn an M.S. in Global Commerce from UVA, an M.S. in Global Strategic Management from ESADE, and a Certificate in International Business from Lingnan. WHAT?

  • Discover AI is a no-cost virtual program in partnership with UMBC that offers a hands-on introduction to computing and artificial intelligence (AI), ethical issues surrounding AI implementation, and tech careers

  • The ten-week Discover AI curriculum covers four basic modules and will require about 25 hours to complete

  • Students completing the program will emerge with actionable next steps in pursuing an academic or career path in AI, and an opportunity to continue to the Apply AI program and get mentorship from industry leadersin the AI and tech industry

  • At the end of the Discover AI program, participants receive an AI4ALL Discover AI certificate of completion


WHO?

  • AI4ALL programs are designed to bring together and highlight voices that have been historically excluded and that will lead and shape the future of AI

  • Freshman, Sophomores, or Juniors in any major

  • All levels of experience in computing, programming, or AI, including none at all

WHEN?

About the Office of Research (OR):

 

The Office of Research (OR) in the Research, Markets, and Regulations Division (RMR) is realizing the CFPB’s mission by bringing an empirical, data-driven approach to the analysis of consumer financial markets.  OR provides the main analytics to understand consumer behavior and support the Bureau’s actions in policy-making, supervision, and enforcement.

 

OR Research Assistant Program

 

The OR Research Assistant Program is a fellowship program that was developed for graduating undergraduates (May/June 2022 graduates may apply) and recent graduates (including December 2021 graduates) who are interested in spending 2-4 years in the Office of Research working alongside Ph.D. researchers (which include economists, research psychologists, and research scientists) on substantial and rigorous data-oriented policy projects.  Ideally, the candidates’ time with our office would prepare them for future graduate programs such as Ph.D. programs in economics and finance, Master of Public Policy, and other graduate fields.  Successful candidates will have a proven track record of academic excellence in one or more of the following areas: economics, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or decisionmaking and cognitive research.  Experience in R, SAS, or Stata programming is also key.  Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, as is the demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment.

Dear Colleagues,

We welcome you to an exciting virtual panel with speakers from the IMF, Peterson Institute for International Economics, and T. Rowe Price to learn more about the research conducted at these institutions. The virtual panel will be held on Monday, February 14, 12-1pm. It is a part of Loyola University Maryland's Travelers Fellow Series on Reaching Beyond Academia.

The purpose of this event is to allow us to learn more about what and how research is being conducted in the private sector, think tanks, and policy organizations. It will be an informal virtual chat in a small group, and you will be able to engage the speakers and ask questions. We hope this session will give you new insights and valuable information.

Speaker Bios:

Antonio Spilimbergo is Deputy Director of the Research Department at the IMF. He received his undergraduate diploma from Bocconi and his PhD from MIT. Since 1997 he has worked at the IMF where he has been mission chief for Brazil, Italy, Slovenia, Russia, and Turkey. He is a research fellow of CEPR. He is a member of the Research Advisory Board of the Central Bank of Russia. His papers are published in leading academic journals, including AER, Review of Economic Studies, AEJ: Macroeconomics, and JIE. He co-edited the books “Getting Back on Track: Growth, Employment, and Rebalancing in Europe” and “Brazil: Boom, Bust, and the Road to Recovery,” and co-wrote the book “Si vax”.

Nicolas Véron cofounded Bruegel in Brussels in 2002-05, joined the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington DC in 2009, and is currently employed on equal terms by both organizations as a Senior Fellow. His research is primarily about financial systems and financial services policies, with a main geographical focus on Europe. A graduate of France’s Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole des Mines, his earlier experience includes senior positions in the French government and private sector in the 1990s and early 2000s. He is also an independent board member of the global derivatives trade repository arm of DTCC, a financial infrastructure company that operates on a non-profit basis. In September 2012, Bloomberg Markets included Véron in its yearly global “50 Most Influential” list with reference to his early advocacy of European banking union.  

 

Toby Thompson 

Toby Thompson is a portfolio manager in the Multi-Asset Division. He is a co-portfolio manager of the Balanced Fund, Global Allocation Funds, Moderate Allocation Portfolio, Spectrum Funds, ActivePlus® Portfolios, and Managed Volatility Strategies. Toby is a vice president of T. Rowe Price Group, Inc., and T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc. Toby’s investment experience began in 1994, and he has been with T. Rowe Price since 2010, beginning in the retirement plan services group. Prior to this, Toby was employed by I.A.M. as director of investments of the National Pension Fund. He also was a principal with Brown Investment Advisory, where he worked in fixed income research, served as director of open architecture and asset allocation, and was a member of the firm's Strategic Investment Committee. Toby earned a B.S. in business and economics from Towson University and an M.B.A. from Loyola University Maryland. Toby also has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst® and Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designations. Toby is a former chairman of the National Aquarium Foundation in Baltimore.
