<Title>PREDOC 2024 Summer Course</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><a href="https://predoc.org/events/predoc-summer-school-2024" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">PREDOC’s 2024 Summer Course</a> is now accepting applications.  This synchronous, remote summer course is designed to introduce rising sophomores and juniors to the breadth of quantitative social science research, and to equip them with technical skills so that they can be competitive on the pre-doc and graduate school markets.  </p><p><br></p><p>The course culminates in an in-person undergraduate research conference in Washington, D.C., hosted by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.  </p><p><br></p><p>The course is free of charge, and all students will receive a $2,000 stipend.  All travel expenses to and from the undergraduate research conference will be covered by PREDOC.  <strong>Applications are due March 23.</strong></p><p> </p><p>More details are on <a href="https://predoc.org/events/predoc-summer-school-2024" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">our website</a>.  For further questions, email: <a href="mailto:stephen@predoc.org" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">stephen@predoc.org</a>.  </p><p><br></p><p>There will an <a href="https://predoc.org/events/2024-summer-course-information-session" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">information session</a> on March 12 at 1:00 p.m. CDT.</p></div>

This course offers an exploration of the healthcare system through the lens of economics, providing you with invaluable tools to analyze healthcare choices at both macro and micro levels. From market forces to policy interventions, we'll navigate the landscape together. You'll be introduced to essential data sources and interactive tools in health economics. Through engaging weekly assignments, you'll learn to craft a public health economic research question and produce a paper ready for presentation.<br></div><div><br></div><div>The only prerequisite is Econ 101. We start with a quick review of microeconomics to refresh your knowledge. This STEM-based paid program offers a unique opportunity for students to delve into significant data analytics training and engage in real-world problem-solving.</span><br><br><strong>Program Details:</strong><span> This four-week virtual research experience requires no travel and is packed with valuable content. Participants will engage in approximately six hours of activities every weekday, from Monday through Friday, spanning the program's duration from June 3 to June 28, 2024.     <div class="html-content"><p>The Bureau of Labor Statistics is holding information sessions about the Student Monthly Labor Review (MLR) to introduce the program to undergraduate students. The Student MLR is a pilot program available under the MLR banner that is dedicated to publishing social science research by undergraduate students. The program provides an opportunity for students to refine their analytical abilities, receive comments from experienced professionals, develop their research conjectures for graduate study, gain professional experience, and produce new knowledge. Subjects that the Student MLR publishes include, but are not exclusive to, demographics, labor economics, prices, environment, community research, and social statistics.</p><p> </p><p>The two information sessions will be held on <strong>Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 10:00 AM ET</strong> and on <strong>Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 5:00 PM ET</strong>. If you win you present your research essay at a conference in June in Washington DC.</div><div><br></div><div>ECON 493 credit is available, and you could do an URCAD presentation too.</div><div>A team of two is optimal (three ok, one person is not enough).</div><div><br></div><div>By 1/26 send in one e-mail to &lt;<a href="mailto:lamdin@umbc.edu">lamdin@umbc.edu</a>&gt;:</div><div>Proposed team, resumes, writing/research project sample for each team member, statement of interest stating why you want to do this, that the team will have the time to work on this (if you have 6 courses and an internship this Spring you probably do not have time), and the team has the skill set needed. I can look up transcripts.</div><div><br></div><div>I will work with the one team that shows the strongest combination of: transcripts (courses and GPA), a convincing statement of interest, and preferably at least one team member I already know who had ECON 374 or 475 with me with an A grade. </div><div><br></div><div>You might know either Benjamin or Hans-Jacob from last year's winning team.
