An Industry on the Boom
UMBC Industry News
The pharmaceutical industry is booming, and that’s good news for students of UMBC’s M.P.S. Biotechnology graduate program and the new Transitional Life Science Technology (TLST) program. In fact, the state of Maryland gives biotechnology incentive credits to help grow the biotechnology industry. That results in a lot of opportunity for our students. In this week’s Industry Roundup, we take a look at how the pharmaceutical industry is geared up for a race to find a cure that is silently killing at least 30 million Americans. We also take a look at developing an agile mind, AI in healthcare and cancer diagnosis, grabbing the attention of millennials and how AI is becoming typical in life.

We had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Annica Wayman, Associate Dean
and Professor, UMBC, Shady Grove Affairs, College of Natural and

The competition offers students from all fields an opportunity to present business ideas to a panel of expert judges and receive immediate feedback on moving from vision to reality. The ideas presented this year ranged from technology to make schools safer from physical threats to wearable technologies that can help people in their daily activities.
