Data is everywhere. And companies struggle with what to do with all that data. The Data Science Master’s program at UMBC prepares students from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds for careers in data science. In this week’s Industry Roundup we take a peek into the world  of internet data and how it’s being organized and archived by a group of 200 enthusiastic archivists who want to help preserve and maintain more than four petabytes of information per year. UMBC associate professor of chemical, biochemical, and environmental engineering, Lee Blaney, is conducting an innovative project on nutrients found in urine. The EPA is funding this project so he can investigate the ability of his Nutrient Extraction and Recovery Device (NERD) technology to recover nutrients from human urine.
