LDAP, Kerberos and webadmin downtime changed to 8/23/2013 Hello all. 

We've changed the date and time for this downtime.  On Friday, August 23rd starting at 2pm LDAP Master, Kerberos and Webadmin will be taken down for system maintenance.  During this time account creations and password changes will be unavailable.  Account authentication and logins will not be affected during this downtime.  

The maintenance window will allow staff to apply needed security and application updates.  The outage window is expected to last two hours with services being restored by 4pm on Friday, August 23rd.  

During the outage window account creations will be queued and then processed upon restoration of services.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Technology Support Center at x53838.

Note: The IMC operates with one FT staff member. IMC students may receive exams, but not process or retrieve them. If Joan is not available or the IMC is closed, faculty or teaching assistants may drop off exams in the secure "after hours" drop box that remains in Engineering 104. However, given the distance between the IMC and Engineering 104, this drop box will ONLY be checked after receipt of an RT ticket indicating that exams have been dropped off there. Bb shells are available for all courses (designated as lecture, lab, or discussion) listed in the UMBC Schedule of Classes (SOC), provided that there was an instructor of recordlisted. The addition of new course sections and instructors will result in new Bb shells being automatically generated each morning. Student enrollment in Bb will continue to mirror the official registration in SA, and will update hourly. If you are an instructor, and your name is not associated with the course you are teaching in the SOC, please see your departmental scheduling coordinator to get that issue resolved. Additionally in situations where one instructor is teaching multiple sections of the same course, by default all sections will be combined into one Bb course shell. In accordance with the Blackboard Course Retention Policy, all Blackboard courses older than  Fall 2007 will be deleted. DoIT has scheduled this removal for Friday, August 23, 2013. 

Instructors are encouraged to download and keep a copy of the Grade Center for any affected courses. Instructors may also archive an entire course, and keep a local copy for their records. Be aware though that only DoIT system administrators can "restore" an archived course on the UMBC Blackboard production server.

After the WT2014 semester is completed (and the SP2014 semester is started), Winter courses will be migrated to the new production Bb server, typically by the end of Spring Break.

Currently, we are running version 9.1.9 and plan to upgrade to version 9.1.13 (depending on what version is available in October when the Winter server is built). In addition to staying current with Bb's latest release, the latest version of Bb will give us access to several new features that include the following:



Before the upgrade, anyone can see how these features look and function now by trying out a demo instance on the free coursesites.blackboard.com:



After the upgrade, DoIT will provide face-to-face and online "Bb Drop In" sessions. We also are very willing to support cohort-based training for departments that can assure a minimum of four (4) faculty and/or staff will be present (dates & times TBD). To request cohort training, submit an "online learning" request via rt.umbc.edu. Please use “Bb Cohort Training Request” in the subject line.

Hello all.

On Tuesday, August 20th starting at 8am LDAP Master, Kerberos and Webadmin will be taken down for system maintenance.  During this time account creations and password changes will be unavailable.  Account authentication and logins will not be affected during this downtime.  

The maintenance window will allow staff to apply needed security and application updates.  The outage window is expected to last two hours with services being restored by 10am on Tuesday, August 20th.  

During the outage window account creations will be queued and then processed upon restoration of services.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Technology Support Center at x53838.
