URGENT! Run for Disability Advocate Union President or Vice President

In order to maintain as a club and support this community, we must fill the roles of President and Vice President for next year.
Want to make a difference on campus,
plan events,
build an inclusive community, and spread awareness of and create
advocacy and accessibility initiatives? Run for the Disability Advocate
Union (DAU) eboard! This is the last day to apply, due by 11:59 tonight! Feel free to apply for multiple
positions and you can also nominate someone you think would be good for
any of these roles!
Any undergraduate student of any major may apply.
DAU Purpose:
The Disability Advocate Union has been established for the purposes of serving the
under-represented disabled population at UMBC and creating social community for and
around it. We seek to advocate for students for accessibility and accommodations, to
elevate and raise the voices of disabled students, to raise awareness of the disabled
community and to educate our UMBC community about disability and how to
accommodate, and to fight against misperceptions about disability. Additionally, we seek
to provide community for people who may not have had or experienced it before, to host
not just accessible but welcoming events for people of all disabilities, to bring educational
opportunities to the disabled population that is relevant to their interests, wants, and needs,
that are not being provided by other organizations on campus, and to provide a space for
discussion for disabled people about topics related to disability that may be perceived as
uncomfortable or taboo in other social groups

"You're invited to a Disability Justice Zine Workshop hosted by the
Minor in Critical Disability Studies. During the workshop, you will have

"My name is Marlene Moreno, and I am a
student here at UMBC, and I am working on a group project regarding
classroom furniture, and we will be holding a presentation on April
25th. I am reaching out to see if anyone in your club might be willing
to provide a testimony regarding the lack of accommodating school
furniture, particularly lecture halls, and classrooms.
I am
currently looking for individuals who have experienced challenges with
the seating and desk arrangements in classrooms and would be open to
sharing their perspectives, Their testimony could help highlight the
need for more inclusive and comfortable learning spaces for all
students. "
"We are doing a activism project for Gender and Women studies on classroom furniture and focusing on:
- the lack of accessibility
- size-inclusivity
- general comfort and space being provided to support activities such as taking an exam.
We
are hoping to have a testimony, in person or written, to be presented
during the presentation, speaking on their experience and any challenges
the student has had, or mentioning a pattern of difficulties seen in
the classroom furniture here at UMBC. The purpose is to bring different
perspectives on the subject matter. The presentation will be
held in the Fine Arts building, and hopefully be presented in front of
students, as well as possible staff or faculty of UMBC."

"I am seeking participants to evaluate User Experience for an
accessible parking app that I am developing as part of an independent
study at UMBC. I would ideally like to speak with individuals who use
wheelchairs, other mobility equipment, or have motor disabilities to
assess whether the app’s design meets their needs. Participants do not
need to be able to drive to take part. The study will take approximately
30 minutes and can be conducted either in person at UMBC or remotely.
