Full Title: McCarl Dental Group seeks interns- marketing research, database development, etc

As an intern at McCarl Dental Group, a student would be able to select from a wide range of projects. Someone interested in technology would be able to assist with development of an email communication system using MacPractice Dental software and Google. A business or marketing major could help refine our tracking system and establish a plan for the overall marketing program with a budget proposal helping define resource allocation for marketing projects. The balance of traditional and cutting edge marketing concepts is fascinating and a student interested in social media marketing could have hands on experience in helping develop and evaluate these programs while comparing them to results from our traditional print ad campaign.

McCarl Dental Group is a third Generation Dental practice serving over 10,000 patients with offices in Greenbelt and Millersville Maryland. We have a wonderful history of quality dental care and the highest professional standards. Drs. Clayton and Jay McCarl are fellows in the Academy of General Dentistry and Dr. Clayton McCarl serves on the Dean’s faculty teaching ethics to dental students at the University of Maryland Dental School. Several members of the McCarl Dental
staff provide volunteer dental services at the Stanton Center Dental Clinic in Annapolis, Maryland.

Here is a summary of a few of the ongoing projects at our dental office.

The National Science Foundation has funded an REU in Bioengineering at Saint Louis University, BE@SLU. The goal of the program is to garner excitement about bioengineering through research early in the undergraduate career. We are currently recruiting for students who are entering or in their first year of college. Other students are eligible, especially students who are transferring from a community college. In addition to early stage undergraduates, the program seeks to provide mentoring opportunities for more advanced students.

    Highlights of BE@SLU 2010 include:
    - Stipend of $4050 for the 9 week program; peer mentors will receive additional funds
    - Housing on campus and a food subsidy
    - Travel stipends up to $500 for out of town students; additional funds are available to travel to national conferences
    - Research project, seminars, presentations, career development, and social activities
    - Variety of project mentors and research areas in bioengineering - view projects from 2009

The 9 week summer program will not only have students actively participate in research, but also have several organized events that will expose students to various career opportunities. Planned summer activities include trainings, industry tours and career panels.

Applications are due March 15, 2010. All students accepted into the program will receive a stipend & housing, along with budgets for food and travel.

Interview at NSA

The National Security Agency (NSA) will be hosting our third NSA Day diversity event for Student Programs on April 16th, 2010. The event allows students to participate in a day of NSA briefings, hands-on activities and interviews.

The focus for the event will be on our Semester Intern Program for Science and Technology (SIP/ST) and our Cooperative Education (Coop) program. The Semester Intern Program recruits juniors and select sophomore students majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Systems Engineering, Network Engineering and Telecommunications to gain work experience during their spring or fall semesters. The Coop Program recruits second semester freshman to second semester sophomores majoring in Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering to conduct alternating semesters of work and school.

If you're interested, email cmille1@umbc.edu by 25 March 2010. The NSA will conduct a preliminary evaluation of the students' resumes to identify those students who meet the SIP/ST and Coop program eligibility criteria for participation in the event. While not required, a minimum 3.0 GPA is preferred.

We will be able to accommodate approximately 30 students for this event so it is important that student resumes be submitted for consideration as soon as possible. Interested students must apply on-line for the SIP/ST or Coop programs at the links below:

    SIP/ST - http://www.nsa.gov/careers/opportunities_4_u/students/undergraduate/sipst.shtml
    COOP - http://www.nsa.gov/careers/opportunities_4_u/students/undergraduate/co-op.shtml

Students will be required to participate in applicant interviews during their visit.

The following provides a tentative agenda for the event:

    April 16th, 2009
    NSA Site Visit
0700 - 0900 am - Travel from hotel to NSA and badge check-in
    0800 - 0900 am - Mission Overview
    0900 - 1000 am - Student Panel Presentation
    1000 - 1045 am - Security Briefing
    1045 - 1300 am - Lunch and Demo Activity
    1300 - 1330 pm - Transport to Friendship Annex
    1345 - 1545 pm - Applicant Interviews
1545 - 1600 pm - Wrap Up and Return to Hotel
