    <div class="html-content"> <h4>Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 Center for Social Science Scholarship<br>Summer Fellowships!</h4><h4><a href="https://socialscience.umbc.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/541/2022/11/CS3-2023-Summer-Fellowship-Application.docx" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Download the application here.</a></h4><p>Applications are now being accepted for the Center for Social Science Scholarship Summer Fellowship.  The purpose of this fellowship is to support significant social science research by tenure-track or tenured faculty in the UMBC College of Arts, Humanities &amp; Social Sciences, resulting in a submittable product by December 2023.  Up to three fellows will receive a $6,000 award during the summer of 2023. </p><p>By December 2023, each Fellow agrees to complete a submittable product, which can include an external grant or fellowship proposal, journal article, policy paper, book manuscript, or book chapter; upon completion, Fellows shall provide a copy of this submitted product to the Director of the Center for Social Science Scholarship. Fellows who are preparing an external proposal are expected to work with <a href="https://socialscience.umbc.edu/grants-administration/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">CS3's research administration</a> staff for pre- and post-award assistance.</p><p><strong>Interested faculty should complete and submit an application consisting of <u><a href="https://socialscience.umbc.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/541/2022/11/CS3-2023-Summer-Fellowship-Application.docx" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">this downloadable 2-page cover sheet and proposal</a></u> that adheres to the specified guidelines.     <div class="html-content"><span><div><span><div><span>To deepen the relationships between UMBC's centers/institutes and UMBC's departments, applications are invited for a new opportunity: </span><span>the<strong> Center and Institute Departmentally-Engaged Research (CIDER)</strong> seed funding program.</span></div><div><br></div><div>CIDER principal investigators must hold primary appointments in a UMBC unit that is <strong><em>not </em></strong>degree-granting (e.g., they are primarily appointed to conduct research and/or creative activities in a UMBC center or institute). Proposals must also include at least one Co-I whose primary appointment <em>is</em> in a degree-granting department. During this half-day learning opportunity, attendees will:</p><ul><li>Increase their understanding of data curation practices to make data more Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR).</li><li>Apply the CURATE(D) model to a data deposit.</li><li>Meet like-minded colleagues who are interested in developing or enhancing curation practices at their institutions.</li></ul><p>This will be an interactive workshop with breakout rooms and small group activities. Attendees will need access to appropriate technology (computer, microphone, webcam, speakers/headphones, web browsers, high speed internet) and come prepared to participate.</p><p><a href="https://www.lib.umn.edu/services/data" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span><span><br></span></span></a></p><p><span><strong>Michelle Yee </strong>is a Senior Data Catalog Coordinator in Data Services at the New York University (NYU) Health Sciences Library. In addition to maintaining the institutional data catalog, Michelle provides assistance with biomedical research data management, access, and sharing. Through training and outreach, she advises researchers on Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) data sharing options. She holds a MPH from NYU School of Global Public Health.</span></p><p><span><strong><br></strong></span></p><p><span><strong>Marley Kalt</strong> is a Data Management Consultant at JHU Data Services(link is external) of Johns Hopkins University Sheridan Libraries. The department provides consultation and training on data access, data analysis, geospatial research and data management planning, and operates the JHU Data Archive(link is external), an open access data sharing platform for the JHU community. Kalt advises on data management planning and curates research data for a variety of disciplines and data types.</span></p><p><span><strong><br></strong></span></p><p><span><strong>Shanda Hunt, </strong>MPH, is the Public Health Library Liaison and Data Curation Specialist. Shanda collaborates with public health faculty, staff, and students to find, preserve, and share information. She also serves the broader university community in her roles as data curator for the Data Repository for the University of Minnesota(link is external) (DRUM) and member of the Research Data Services Team(link is external).</span></p></div></div></div></div>
