22 Yards: The Cricket Club at UMBC (UMBC Cricket Club or just 22 Yards) was formed by cricket enthusiast students from the University of Maryland at Baltimore County (UMBC) in 2004. UMBC is located near the I-95/I-695 interchange, south of Baltimore City. 22 Yards was recognized by the Sports Club Council of the UMBC (SCC), and started receiving funding in 2005.

Our mission is to promote the game of Cricket at UMBC, and develop a team that will be competitive and successful in inter-regional competitions. We are proud to represent UMBC in the Washington Metropolitan Cricket Board (WMCB). WMCB is an organized Cricket League which follows the standards set by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).

The founding president, Amitkumar Mahadevan, and then captain of the team, Faisel Maniar, reached out to many students and alumnus to raise awareness of the club. With their efforts, they were able to raise funds and increase number of participating members. Increase in funds allowed us to build the infrastructure and procure essential equipment, which in turn, enabled us to make a strong statement in the 2005 season of the WMCB League. In the recently concluded Round Robin competition of the WMCB League, 22 Yards was crowned the championship title in the division one. For the second season in a row, UMBC made it to the final of the Round Robin competition. Apart from the Round Robin competition, we were also the back to back finalist of the Board of Directors Trophy for seasons 2007 and 2008.

To this day, the club has grown to approximately 150 members, and is placed in the first division of the WMCB League. This growth is attributed to contribution from each and every member of the club and an invaluable support from the SCC. The UMBC Cricket Club is comprised of members with varying degrees of cricketing skills. However, there is one thing that everyone shares - love for the game, and enthusiasm to see the sport grow. Whether you are a newcomer to the sport, or want to play competitively, there's a place for you in our club.
