Social Media Ownership
posted almost 12 years ago
I read an article from Network World titled "Who Owns that Twitter Account?". The piece questioned since personal social media accounts are sometimes used for business purposes when the employee separates from the business who has rights to the account? The article gave examples of this that have been or are still under litigation. One example included an individual who used Twitter while employed at a company that provided reviews on products. Well when the employee left the company to work for another firm he wanted to keep his Twitter account. The "rub" is that he (or some say "he and the business") had accumulated a large amount of followers. So who do the followers belong to? Furthermore another question which goes back to the title of the article "Who Owns that Twitter Account?". So take a read at the article and please feel free to share your thoughts or comments below.
Thanks!
