CPS myUMBC Group Access
posted about 12 years ago
The CPS (the new organizational acronym is DPS, but to reduce confusion in this message since the myUMBC Group named hasn't been updated yet this message will reference the old acronym of CPS) myUMBC Group has been in use for a little over a year and a half (see introductory message) and the use has been okay. The group has grown to thirty-four members which is great! Originally this group was started as an “open” group meaning that group content is visible to anyone (except comments are only seen by group members). This also means that anyone can join the group as well as they can remove themeselves from the group. The beauty of this is that there is low if any maintenance on moderating group membership. There has been an interest in possibly changing the management of this group’s membership so that users can be removed for valid reasons (i.e. employee separation from UMBC). Below are the myUMBC Group levels of access as described in myUMBC:
Open
• Group content visible to anyone
• Anyone can join
Closed
• Group content visible to anyone
• Anyone can follow
• Members must be invited
Private
• Only members can see content
• Members must be invited
In addition to the Closed and Private options we would only allow CPS departmental employees as members in the group. The Open level of access of course will still have this group open to the public for membership. So we would like for the group members to vote on how they would like the group to be moderated. Please submit your vote by Friday, 10/5/2012. The results of the poll will dictate the future of the membership access of this group. If there are any questions please do not hesitate to post a comment below.
Thanks
