Educause Open Source Presentation
Open Source
posted about 14 years ago
On 10/14/2010 I was able to attend a virtual session of the Educause conference. It was very enlightening. Here are some notes I jotted down from the event:
- Look into some open source packages.
- Look for the "strategic goals" then seek out solutions.
- Don't recommend "drafting" behind "big rigs" (big universities) that are using certain open source software. If anything get on the "road" yourself and find ways to assist/collaborate with the efforts.
- Not choosing open source over proprietary software. You have to evaluate the need and go with the best option.
- One person said he doesn't let "sunken cost" drive why to stick with a certain solution.
- Need to find communities where people are doing the same thing. There is a trust factor.
- "Park your ego at the door and bring your brain."
