Thanksgiving Hours Hello all! 

Just a reminder that when UMBC is closed, commonvision is closed. 

We will have our standard 9-5 hours Mon, Tues, and Wednesday, but we will be Closed on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (we are normally closed weekend regardless). 

We will re-open Monday at 9am.

We welcome back UMBC alum Adam J. Kurtz to share his insights and experiences from graduate to social media maven, indie artist extraordinaire, and successful author.

"Talking About Feelings" is an informal lecture focused on helping liberal-arts students harness their creative energy, make use of resources when they have access to them, and maybe laugh a little at how scary life can feel when you don’t quite know what the future holds. 

Adam speaks frankly about what it means to make work in 2016, find an audience and do it yourself.

In September of 2010 GFDA (Good Fucking Design Advice) was launched as a joke on a whim. Before they knew it, Co-founders Brian Buirge and Jason Bacher were plunged headfirst into business selling shirts and prints from the basement of their rental property in Northeast Ohio. Over the last six years they have established themselves as a powerhouse in the international design and creative community. Their story is overflowing with embarrassing failures and stupid mistakes which they view not as road blocks, but sign posts on their way toward inevitable success. Holding to the perspective that they either win or learn, they believe wholeheartedly that experience only comes the moment after you need it. Brian and Jason look to really address the hurdles and blocks that get in the way of people starting and continuing their own creative projects, taking great pride in championing courage, risk-taking, and failure through their personal examples.

We are seeking an undergraduate Office Assistant with availability on Tuesdays and Thursdays this Fall semester.

You do not have to be a visual arts major to apply to this position. This position requires working the front desk, so you will be the face and voice of commonvision!!

Applicants Must:

  • Be highly dedicated & organized

  • Have at least 2 semesters left at UMBC

  • Be in good academic standing

  • Be able to work at least 10 hours a week


We’re looking for students with:

  • An understanding of advertising via social media

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • A great sense of organization and planning

  • A sense of humor

  • Ability to work without constant supervision

Bonus points if:

  • You have customer service experience

  • You have an interest in visual arts, design, and/or animation

  • You have an interest or are involved in student events

  • You have an interest or experience in photography

  • You make us laugh

Your personality is along the lines of:

  • Self-motivated

  • Team-oriented

  • Attentive to details

  • Manages time and deadlines well
