    <div class="html-content">Battelle $20,000 Scholarship. Deadline extended until April 13th<br><br>Battelle, a national company specializing in science and technology research, is excited to announce the launch of the Battelle STEM Scholars scholarship application: <a href="http://www.battelle.org/our-work/stem-education/battelle-stem-scholars" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">http://www.battelle.org/our-work/stem-education/battelle-stem-scholars</a><br><br>For the first year of the scholarship, Battelle is limiting its search to a few select universities and programs and is looking for computer science majors at UMBC.  The Battelle STEM Scholars scholarship will provide a $20,000 scholarship and a paid internship to 3 qualified and motivated sophomores. <Title>Reminder: Registration Advising Appointments - Please Read</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Attention Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science Majors:<br><br>It’s time to start thinking about registration for Fall 2015. All students must meet with an advisor for pre-registration advising. Students will not be able to register for classes if they have not received registration clearance from their advisor. <br><br>Transfer students in their first semester at UMBC, regardless of 
    gateway status, should follow the directions for students who have <u>not</u> completed the gateway.<br><br>Please see the information below to determine your next steps in the registration advising process.<br><u><strong><br>Students Who Have Not Completed the Gateway:</strong></u><br>Students who have not completed the gateway requirements for their major must meet with an academic advisor in ITE 202-206 in order to be cleared for registration. <br><br>This semester we are continuing to offer group and individual advising appointments. Group advising appointments require approximately 30 minutes of your time and give you the opportunity to review your registration plans with multiple advisors in a small group setting. Students who attend group advising will be cleared to register during the group advising session. Individual advising appointments require approximately 30 minutes of your time and give you the opportunity to meet with an advisor one-on-one. In general, if you are having academic difficulty or you have a large number of questions, an individual advising appointment is recommended. <br><br>If you attend group advising, you may still sign up to meet with an advisor individually to address any additional questions or concerns you may have. However, an individual appointment is not required.<br><br><strong>An individual appointment is required for students on academic 
    probation. Students on academic probation may not attend group advising.</strong><br><br><strong>Beginning on February 25th, sign up sheets for group advising appointments will be posted outside ITE 202-206. Sign up sheets for individual appointments will be posted beginning March 12th outside offices ITE 202-206. Please make a note of the date and time of your appointment.</strong><br><strong><br>Prior to your appointment:</strong><br>1.    Please review your scheduling options by looking over the schedule of classes, available starting on March 23rd, on the UMBC website<strong> <a href="http://my.umbc.edu/go/schedule" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">HERE</a></strong>.<br>2.    Review your degree audit – major and general education/foundation requirements, so that you are aware of the courses still needed to complete your degree requirements. Learn more about your degree audit <a href="http://my.umbc.edu/groups/advising/news/17978" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>HERE</strong></a>.<br>3.    Review the sample 4-year plan for your major to determine where you are in the recommended sequence of courses. <a href="http://advising.coeit.umbc.edu/four-year-plans/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>HERE</strong></a><br>4.    Check the Gateway requirements for your major and determine where you are in relation to the completion of this requirement. <a href="http://advising.coeit.umbc.edu/gateway-information/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>HERE</strong></a><br>5.    Come prepared to your appointment with a list of courses you intend to take in Fall 2015.<br><br>After your advising appointment, you will have clearance to register for classes. However, you will not be able to register until your assigned registration time. Your registration time is the earliest date and time that you may register for classes. For information about registration times, please go <a href="http://registrar.umbc.edu/academic-calendar/registration-appointments/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>HERE</strong></a>. If you have not attended an advising session, you will not be able to register when your registration time occurs.<br><br>If you have a hold on your account, it is still important that you sign up for an advising appointment. Meeting with an advisor in advance of registration means that you will not have to worry about getting advising clearance once your hold is lifted. <br><br><u><strong>Students Who Have Completed the Gateway:</strong></u><br>Students who have completed the gateway requirements for their major should follow the instructions for your specific major below. You may review your degree audit to check your progress in completing the gateway requirements for your major.<br><br>Transfer students in their first semester at UMBC, regardless of gateway status, should follow the directions for students who have <u>not</u> completed the gateway.<br><br><u>Computer Engineering and Computer Science:</u><br><br>If you have completed your gateway requirements, your may view your assigned faculty advisor’s name online beginning on <strong>March 2nd</strong>. To access this information, follow these steps:<br><ul><li>Login to myUMBC</li></ul><ul><li>Select “Topics”</li></ul><ul><li>Select “Advising and Student Support”</li></ul><ul><li>Select “My Advisors”</li></ul>Please contact your faculty advisor to schedule an advising appointment.<br><br><u>Chemical Engineering:</u><br>If you have completed your gateway requirements and ENCH 215, please go to ENGR 314 to find your advisor’s contact information. <br><br><u>Mechanical Engineering:</u><br>If you have completed your gateway requirements, you will receive an email from the Mechanical Engineering Department that will provide you with your advisor’s name or will advise you of a Mechanical Engineering advising meeting that you will be required to attend. <br><br>You may also visit the Mechanical Engineering Department and speak with Ms. Karen Parisi in ENGR 210 for a list of advisor assignments and for information about the Mechanical Engineering advising meeting.<br><br><u>Information Systems</u>:<br>Information Systems students are advised by advisors through the IS Department. Recipients will be required to create programing for local middle and high school students to encourage them to pursue STEM degrees.<br><br>The application requires a transcript, resume, two letters of reference, a phone interview and letter of support from at least one local school is also required. However, you will not be able to register until your assigned registration time. Your registration time is the earliest date and time that you may register for classes. For information about registration times, please go <a href="http://registrar.umbc.edu/academic-calendar/registration-appointments/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>HERE</strong></a>. If you have not attended an advising session, you will not be able to register when your registration time occurs.<br><br>If you have a hold on your account, it is still important that you sign up for an advising appointment. Meeting with an advisor in advance of registration means that you will not have to worry about getting advising clearance once your hold is lifted. <br><br><u><strong>Students Who Have Completed the Gateway:</strong></u><br>Students who have completed the gateway requirements for their major should follow the instructions for your specific major below. You may review your degree audit to check your progress in completing the gateway requirements for your major.<br><br>Transfer students in their first semester at UMBC, regardless of gateway status, should follow the directions for students who have <u>not</u> completed the gateway.<br><br><u>Computer Engineering and Computer Science:</u><br><br>If you have completed your gateway requirements, your may view your assigned faculty advisor’s name online beginning on <strong>March 2nd</strong>. <Title>Take Flight Robotics</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Take Flight Robotics is a new STEM initiative that is being developed by some faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. We are looking to get students (and teachers) excited about careers in STEM through learning how to design, build, and fly unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). We are currently looking for financial support to help make this a reality!     <div class="html-content">Battelle, a national company specializing in science and technology research, is excited to announce the launch of the Battelle STEM Scholars scholarship application: <br><a href="http://www.battelle.org/our-work/stem-education/battelle-stem-scholars" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><br>http://www.battelle.org/our-work/stem-education/battelle-stem-scholars</a><br><br>For the first year of the scholarship, Battelle is limiting its search to a few select universities and programs and is looking for computer science majors at UMBC.  The Battelle STEM Scholars scholarship will provide a $20,000 scholarship and a paid internship to 3 qualified and motivated sophomores. Recipients will be required to create programing for local middle and high school students to encourage them to pursue STEM degrees.<br><br>The application requires a transcript, resume, two letters of reference, a phone interview and letter of support from at least one local school is also required.
