STEM Undergrads @UMBC: NSF GRFP & Funding Seminar - Sept 10

STEM Undergrads @UMBC: NSF GRFP & Funding Seminar
Sept 10th, 10am-3pm

The PROMISE AGEP for the University System of Maryland, in collaboration with The Graduate School at UMBC, invites all undergraduate students and graduate students to come to a special workshop on funding for graduate school. The "Special Saturday Seminar" will be held on UMBC's campus on Saturday, September 10, 2016, from 10 AM to 3 PM. Light breakfast refreshments will be served for the morning "information segment", followed by a lunch for those who remain for the afternoon "working" segment.

This seminar will give particular focus to the National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) and their fellowship for STEM students (including social sciences). Students can apply as undergraduates or as graduate students. Our campuses in Maryland have had several winners over the years, and we would like to continue that trend.

This seminar is FREE, and will be hosted by two former NSF GRFP Winners, Dr. Frances Carter-Johnson, from the National Science Foundation, and Dr. Patricia Ordóñez, from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras. Dr. Carter- Johnson and Dr. Ordóñez, have been giving this seminar for more than 5 years, and it has been offered in English and Spanish. They have presented the seminar across the country, e.g., MIT, Harvard, Texas, Howard, Puerto Rico. Students from their seminars have now netted millions of dollars in funding.

The link with the agenda and RSVP information can be found here: https://promiseagep.wordpress.com/2016/07/19/september-10-2016-funding-your-graduate-education-with-the-nsf-grfp-fellowship/

Please note that if you are not directly interested in the NSF GRFP, you can still participate in the seminar to learn and apply for other types of funding. Students who have done this in the past have received funding from NIH, the Department of Defense, and other funding agencies.

In the spirit of "The Jessica Effect," we promote a family friendly environment. You are welcome to bring family members, spouses, significant others, and children with you.

If you would like to share the information via Twitter, feel free to retweet: https://twitter.com/Renetta_Tull/status/773250089900920832. Please plan to attend, and/or share widely. We will look forward to welcoming you/your students on Saturday.
