IBM-UMBC Day will create connections and enhance collaboration between UMBC faculty, students, and guests with IBM researchers and thought leaders around topics impacting the future of computing.

Technical talks by IBM and UMBC researchers will include Artificial Intelligence/Watson, Blockchain, Quantum Computing, and Cybersecurity. A full agenda will be available soon.

The Grand Challenges are 14 problems in the areas of sustainability, health, infrastructure, and the joy of living that will require interdisciplinary teams and sustained years of effort to solve.  The GCSP brings together a diverse cohort of undergraduates from all majors to work towards solutions for these problems.  GC Scholars develop broad skills by completing experiences in five program areas: research, interdisciplinarity, entrepreneurship, global perspectives, and service. 

We especially encourage sophomores to apply but students who are earlier or later in their studies are also welcome to apply as long as they are able to complete the requirements. In addition to the five program experiences, students must complete three one-credit GCSP seminars, and are expected to participate in GC-related activities on and off campus.

We will be hosting a Grand Challenges Symposium on Monday, April 2, from 6-8 p.m. in UC 310. We invite you to come and learn more about the GCSP, meet the current Scholars, and enjoy light refreshments.

We've reached the part of the semester when advising for engineering and computer science students is available by appointment only. Walk In advising is not available.

Appointments are needed to obtain registration clearance for fall registration. If you have other questions or concerns which you would like to discuss with an advisor in person, please schedule an appointment.

Fall 2018 Registration Advising Appointment Information


Every semester, students must meet with an advisor in order to obtain registration clearance for the upcoming semester. In order to register at your appointed time, you must see an advisor BEFORE this date and time. Sign up for your appointment today. If you are an engineering or computer science major, please visit the website below for instructions about how to sign up for your advising appointment.

Address Registration Blocks and Holds Early!

Check your myUMBC account now to be sure you have no outstanding obligations to the university that could prevent you from registering. Please note that you can still receive advising authorization even if you have an administrative hold.  Having your advising clearance in place will help you to register immediately after your hold is removed.


What about Summer Classes?

The schedule of summer classes is already available. Registration for summer classes begins March 5th. Students do not need to meet with an advisor prior to registering for summer courses unless you have questions or concerns. Certain summer classes, such as ENCH 215, require permission from advising to enroll.
