The BEYA STEM Conference sponsored by Career Communications Group (CCG) will be held February 13-15, 2020 as part of this large annual conference, representatives from several major corporations and universities will be on hand to meet with students pursuing careers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields as well as Business, Finance, and Marketing.  Why should you attend?

The Career Fair portion of the conference on Friday and Saturday, is free of charge for UMBC students and alumni with an active UMBC email address. All students are welcome to attend. Dress to impress and bring plenty of updated resumes!

Free Shuttle Bus

There will be a free shuttle bus to transport students to and from the career fair on Friday or on Saturday. If you will need transportation, be sure to complete the shuttle bus registration form at the bottom of the registration page: https://careers2.umbc.edu/calendar/fairs/beyabus2020.php. Please note that the free shuttle bus is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  In order to serve the most students, you may select only one day to ride the shuttle. The free shuttle will run only on Friday and Saturday between 8:15 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Transportation to and from other conference events (such as the BEYA Gala held Saturday evening) is on your own.

If you are changing your major to a major outside the College of Engineering and Information Technology, please contact the respective department of your new major for advising appointment instructions. Please remember to complete a Declaration of Major form for your new major.

2020 Scholarship Program

• Cumulative Grade Point Average: 12 points
• Maryland Resident: 40 points
• Statement of Financial Need: 10 points – Be sure to include with application to ACEC/MD.
• Essay: 10 points
• Include a short essay (approximately 500 words) on “Describe how consulting engineers make their community a better place to live both technically and socially.” Your interest, understanding and commitment to the business and management of the profession are important and should be reflected in the essay.
• Work Experience: 12 points: List your most recent work experience first and include any jobs held during high school. Indicate the year in school during which you held a particular position. Indicate if your work experience was in the form of work study, coop, or practicum. Clearly identify the nature of the business of the listed employers; in particular, note consulting engineering or land surveying firms. Be complete and accurate. List additional experiences on a separate sheet and attach if necessary. The more experience you list, the higher your potential score.

• Recommendation: 8 points: A recommendation from an engineering professor, consulting engineer, or land surveyor will be evaluated. Use the enclosed form – a letter generally is not sufficient. The evaluator must send the recommendation directly to ACEC/MD.
  

• Extra Curricular College Activities: 8 points: Indicate all college activities including offices held in any organization. Be as complete as possible. If there are no activities, write “none”. The more activities you list, the higher your potential score.

Apply to Be A 2020 Station1 Fellow!

We invite you to apply to be in the summer 2020 cohort and participate in the Station1 Frontiers Fellowship (SFF) – a unique and exciting ten week residential science and technology-focused educational, research, and internship summer program with a focus on societal perspective, social innovation, and impact in the Boston region of Massachusetts in the USA.

As a Station1 Fellow You Will:

• Receive all expenses paid including a competitive living expenses stipend, housing costs, a stipend for transportation to and from Station1, commuting transportation costs to and from internships, and instructional costs; 
  
  
• Gain authentic, hands-on experience through an internship in a leading science and technology company or academic research laboratory;
  
  
• Participate in exciting, state-of-the-art research and development project in science and technology; Station1 supports projects across all of STEM majors including areas such as biotechnology, clean technologies and sustainability, agricultural technologies, civic technologies, aeronautics and astronautics, advanced manufacturing, 3D printing and digital automation, nanoscale materials design, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and more;
  
  
• Engage with a shared curriculum, unique in the nation and the world, focused on socially-directed STEM education and research which draws together critical perspectives on history, social studies of science and technology, equity, inclusion, sociotechnical studies of computation, social change and innovation, sustainability, and ethics of science and technology; 
  
  
• Gain interdisciplinary experience by interacting with guest instructors and mentors from a diversity of fields;
  
  
• Gain personal and professional experience through both the internship and a formal curriculum that focuses on areas such as: intercultural knowledge, inclusive leadership and collaboration, multi-modal communication, and more; 
  
  
• Have access to a creative co-working, collaboration, and learning space;
