[6/1/2010]--Several UMBC mechanical engineering students recently traveled down to Greenville, South Carolina to compete in the first SAE Baja race of the year. At the end of the competition that occurred from April 8-11th, the UMBC Baja team brought home the 6th Overall trophy, the highest ranking since the program’s inception at UMBC. The team finished 6th Overall out of a field of 100 international competitors while also placing 7th in the grueling Endurance event. The team placed in the top 25 in all but one dynamic event.
This year’s performance was made possible not only by the hard work of the student team members but also through the generous sponsorship of Lockheed Martin and UMBC’s Department of Mechanical Engineering.
