[11/11/2010]--Researchers at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and other institutions have been given $5 million to study how development affects water quality and supply, and how urban landscapes might influence climate.

"Development puts stress on regional water supplies and aquatic ecosystems, and there are lots of questions about how we can better manage those stresses," said Claire Welty, a UMBC professor and principal investigator on the study. She is director of UMBC's Center for Urban Environmental Research and Education. She is director of UMBC's Center for Urban Environmental Research and Education.
