[6/1/2010]--The Outstanding Staff Award is given to a university staff member who provides outstanding service and support to the graduate student community. Mr. Chuck Smithson, the Graduate Program Coordinator for the Mechanical Engineering Department, is this year’s award recipient.

Mr. Smithson has been at UMBC since 2001 and has been an essential member of the Mechanical Engineering team since May 2005. He is an incredible asset to graduate students and always happily goes above and beyond whatever is necessary to help anyone and everyone who stops by his office, no matter how busy he may be. In the words of Professor Charalambides (former ME Department Chair), “In addition to his unconditional support given to students, staff and faculty, Chuck has a kind and gentle soul that inspires all of those who come in contact with him. We are fortunate to have someone like Chuck as a member of the Mechanical Engineering Community”
