Linda Reed and Wendy Schauer Landwehr received the Fellow Grade Member award, Debbie Edwards Veihdeffer received the Work-Life Balance Award and Helen M. Phillips ('98 BS '01 MS Mechanical Engineering) received the Emerging Leader in Construction and Manufacturing Award.Reed and Schauer Landwehr were honored in recognition of continuous service to the advancement of women in the engineering profession.
A 21-year and senior life member of SWE, Reed's activities on behalf of the Los Angeles section were recognized with the Loring Nicholson Award, which has been presented only seven times in the history of the Los Angeles section. Reed earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electronic engineering, from California State University, Long Beach and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications Arts and Sciences from Michigan State University.
A senior life member of SWE, Schauer Landwehr has held a variety of positions at the organization's local, regional, and national levels, including Chicago Regional section president and Procedures Committee chair. She earned her Master of Science degree in computer science from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Family & Consumer science, Dietetics from Eastern Illinois University.
The director of work-life integration for the company's Electronic Systems sector in Baltimore, she is responsible for the development, implementation and assessment of a broad range of work-life programs that directly support the company's efforts to increase employee engagement and enhance its reputation as a preferred employer. She was previously a human resources manager for engineering and manufacturing and also served as the manager of learning and development for the sector.
Phillips was honored as a future leader in construction and manufacturing. As the enterprise product team leader for the design and manufacturability of next-generation transmit/receive modules at the company's Electronic Systems sector in Baltimore, she is responsible for balancing thermal, power handling, cost, producibility and electrical requirements in the development of advanced electronic components.
She has successfully led interdisciplinary teams of engineers through concept development, design, build and testing for a wide range of products including state-of-the-art microcircuits. Phillips has been honored by the company for her work, receiving the 2009 Presidential Leadership Award for Innovation and Technology. She earned Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering from University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Syracuse University.
