There was no "Quad" when UMBC opened in 1966 because there were not enough buildings to form one. The open field adjacent to the Academic Building (now part of the Biological Sciences Building) and the Multi Purpose Building (later Gym I) was eventually called "the Mall."
The Lecture Hall (now commonly called Lecture Hall 1) stood between the Academic and Multi Purpose Buildings. To create the 1967 photo below, the photographer stood on what is now the Commons Terrace and pointed the camera toward the the Mall. The foreground of the shot includes Gym I (on the left) and the Lecture Hall (on the right).
We went back to where the photographer must have been standing (though the elevation is different now) and took a matching shot.
