We're asking some of the people you might encounter on the UMBC campus, including students, faculty, staff and alumni, to answer a few questions about themselves and their experiences. These are their responses.
Name: Imani Spence
Hometown: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Name: Imani Spence
Hometown: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Major: Media and Communication Studies (MCS)
Q: How long have you been at UMBC?
A: Second Semester Freshman
Q: What is your current title (job or student organization position)?
A: I'm currently the Assistant Technology Editor at The Retriever Weekly, as well as the Social Media Coordinator at WMBC (UMBC's college radio station), and I host my own show Positive Frequency on Wednesdays from 2-4. I am also a witness on the Mock Trial team!
Q: In 12 words or less, what role(s) do you play on campus?
A: Student, friend, helper, commuter and person with excess enthusiasm.
Q: What aspect of your UMBC role(s) do you enjoy most?
A: This is not fair. I really enjoy all my roles on campus. I really love being a part of The Retriever Weekly's editorial staff, because all the people are really accepting, and that means a lot to me as a commuter. But I honestly love all the things I do on campus exceedingly.
Q: What is the most important or memorable thing you learned in college/have learned at UMBC?
A: Don't judge. I was really quick to dismiss people in high school, but here I just want to see what everyone is up to, and what their passions are. I guess the second best thing would be that EVERYONE has a passion.
Q: Complete this sentence: "I am a big fan of __________"
A: KID PRESIDENT, Fall Out Boy, and Mad Men.
Q: Do you have any UMBC stories, little-known facts about UMBC, favorite spots on campus, or anything else you’d like to share?
A: As a commuter, the 6th floor of the library is the BEST place for naps.
