Any student who is in their first year at UMBC - freshmen and transfer students - are eligible to take courses in the First-Year Seminar (FYS) program.
Many FYS courses carry GEP designations, and can be used to meet those requirements. However...
Students may take more than one FYS course, but they may only use one FYS course in the completion of their GEPs.
If the FYS course is being used to satisfy AH or SS requirements (3 courses needed in each), the other two courses used to fulfill that requirement category must come from different disciplines. For example, if your FYS course carries an AH designation, you can't use two ENGL AH courses to finish the requirement, but you could use your FYS AH, an ENGL AH, and a PHIL AH.
