Hello CNMS students! Today, April 11, is the last day to withdraw (W on transcript) from individual courses. Before you withdraw from a course, we recommend speaking with the professor, your advisor, and Offices of Financial Aid and Residence Life (if applicable). Withdrawing from a course WILL count towards the number of attempts at a course, but of course it will not be part of your GPA. Please be advised that withdrawing from a course might switch you from full-time to part-time, depending on number of credits you are enrolled in, so consider this as well.
Keep in mind that you may also do a complete term withdraw from ALL of your courses this semester until the last day of classes (May 17).

Registration for Fall 2022 is right around the corner which means that that you will want to plan to meet with your assigned major advisor ASAP in order to discuss your academic plan and receive advising clearance.
Keep in mind that advising is MANDATORY every semester and must be completed prior to registration for the upcoming school term.
Check your myUMBC email (sent on 3/3) for your advisor assignment and further instructions.
Advisor assignments can also be found via the CNMS Advising website here (by major).
Newly or recently declared life science majors who do not have a listed advisor assignment should contact CNMSAdvising@umbc.edu for support.
NOTE**: The FALL 2022 Schedule of Classes went LIVE TODAY (3/28). You can begin reviewing course/schedule options right away however you will want to take note of your earliest registration date/time (based on earned credits). A comprehensive chart for all registration dates/times can be found here. Initial registration times for undergraduate students will begin as early as April 5th for students who have earned 120 credits or more and will continue in descending earned credit order through to April 22nd when all continuing students are eligible. You can verify your specific date/time for registration via your myUMBC account. **
SUMMER 2022 Registrationbegan on March 1st. Advising is not mandatory for summer registration however you will want to discuss your plans with your assigned advisor in order to confirm accurate Fall 2022 course suggestions. If you intend to take course at another institution during this time you will first need to complete a Verification of Transferability Form at least three weeks PRIOR to your registration elsewhere. Happy (almost) spring break, retrievers! Here are some tips
for making the most out of your well-earned week off:
-Get PLENTY of rest! Spring break is a great time to catch
up on sleep, but you should also take a mental rest from all that homework. The
weather is starting to turn and spring is really here, so get outside and move
your body, catch up with friends and family, and sleep as much as you can.
-Do some research on summer internships and employment. You
can find a lot of great information on the UMBC Career Center website, linked here.
It is a great time to update your resume or draft some cover letters! You can
also check out Biology and Chemistry research labs on campus by clicking on the
relevant links. Take some time to check in with professors to see if they are
taking undergraduate research assistants in their labs!
-Catch up on some homework! If you are a couple of days
behind in your courses or you have some midterms coming up, this is a great
time to get yourself situated. Schedule your study time (we recommend studying
in 25-minute focused intervals with short breaks between each session) and to
work!
Travel safely if you have a long way to go and have a
restful, fruitful week off! We hope to see you back recharged and ready to give
your all to the rest of the semester.

Midterm Madness: Wednesday March 16 from 12-1 in UC 115 (The Learning Collaboratory). Go over study skills and success tips to maximize your midterm grades and reduce test anxiety this spring!
Achieving Retriever Gold: The purpose of this workshop is to inform students what it means to be on Academic Warning/Probation, understand challenges and barriers to academic success, and identify campus resources to support with getting off of probation. Also, students will learn tangible skills for calculating their GPA and what grades are needed to return to positive academic standing.

1.) The last day of schedule adjustment (i.e. last day to add/drop/swap your classes) is this upcoming Friday, February 11th. Make sure that you are happy with your classes, that you are FULLY registered for a minimum of 12 credits (if you need to be a full-time student), and that you have established a balanced plan for the semester. Feel free to check in with your assigned advisor if you have any questions/concerns. First semester students can follow up with CNMSAdvising@umbc.edu for support.
3.) The Summer 2022 schedule is LIVE and registration will begin on March 1st. Advising clearance is not needed for summer course registration, however you will want to discuss your plans with your advisor during the next few months.
4.) Take some time to update your record! Check your myUMBC account to determine your declared major(s). If your record does not accurately reflect your plans you can submit an updated Declaration of Major FormHERE. When completing the form, be sure to declare/ADD your new major intentions as well as remove/DELETE any unwanted programs.
