Welcome to our Weekly Study Tip post! This week, we're talking all about checking grades. Some of you may be avoiding thinking about it, but by checking in with yourself for every course, you should find that anxiety decreases and you feel more confident going into the last push of the semester.

We've put together a YouTube video with how to use our accompanying spreadsheet! Please note that if you click the hyperlink for the spreadsheet, it will trigger an automatic download. This spreadsheet requires your browser to have the use of Microsoft Excel.

1. Check your Syllabi

Your professors will have outlined the grade breakdown for each class in their syllabus. Make sure to reference this and write down everything you'll be graded on so that you can fill out the spreadsheet accurately!

2. Fill in the Spreadsheet's Categories

Take these percentages and edit the spreadsheet accordingly for each class - just make sure you are careful to accurately use the percentage symbol!

3. Enter your Current Grades

You can enter a different grade for each assignment/test/discussion meeting on each line, or if Blackboard gives you an average, you can just enter the average one time.

Note: fill in the spreadsheet as a fraction (i.e. 3/5) or a decimal (i.e. .89 for 89%), otherwise your grade will be incredibly skewed. If you received 100% on something, you can just put 1.

4. Enter Hypotheticals if you Want

It's likely that there will be some categories left blank. If you want to know what your final grade will be if you get different grades on the final exam (or any final upcoming tests/quizzes/assignments, etc.), you can enter hypothetical grades for those columns or assignments to see how much the final grade will change!

Note: you will not have an accurate final grade until all columns are filled out. Your 'percentage of total possible points' is your current grade in the class!

If you have questions, ask your professor!

This Week with CNMS Advising:

Monday 4/29

2-2:30 (note shorter time!) - Study Hall in TLC (UC115) with CHEM101 PRACTICE EXAMS

3-4 - Healthcare Ethics Panel + University of Maryland School of Medicine Admissions Presentation with Pre-Health Advising

Tuesday 4/30

11:30-12:30 - Study Hall in TLC (UC115) with BIOL141 FINAL EXAM STUDY GUIDES AVAILABLE

Wednesday 5/1

11-12 - Study Hall in TLC (UC115) with BIOL142 FINAL EXAM STUDY GUIDES AVAILABLE

12-1 - How Do I Get an A Workshop in UC115

3-4 - Study Hall in TLC (UC115) -- all final exam practice materials available!

Study Tip of the Week: Get Ready for Summer!

<Tagline>It's just around the corner...</Tagline>

Welcome to our Weekly Study Tip post! This week, we're not really talking about studying, but something equally important: how to get ready for summer! It may be chilly today, but trust us when we say that the summer will be upon us sooner than you think.

You can check out our YouTube video for some hints -- we hope you find it helpful!

1. Set some Goals

If you start your summer with goals, that’ll give you some structure on how to plan your days, weeks, and months. Maybe there’s something you can do every day (or most days) to build up a skill in a certain area?

Perhaps you're gearing up for a second attempt at CHEM101. A daily practice might be to get ready for this by doing 15 minutes each day of Khan Academy Chemistry. Maybe you're trying to get ready for some upper-level biology coursework - our tip here is to start reading papers related to those topics so you're ready for that big syllabus come fall! You can use the library website to search for journals that relate to your interests, or ask a faculty member for some tips at their office hours.

2. Ask for Advice

Want some advice on how to stay fresh for fall courses, or perhaps what to be reading this summer? Talk to a professor.

Looking to build your resume? Talk to someone in the Career Center.

General productivity tips? Ask your advisor, a success coach, or even

your academic advocate if they can give you some advice!

3. Keep Busy!

You might be working as a lifeguard or restaurant server, getting clinical hours, or doing an awesome internship or program. But if you're finding yourself twiddling your thumbs, here are some great ways to keep yourself busy:

Read for an hour each day. It doesn't have to be related to your major. Just the act of focusing on something intently for an hour (put that phone on silent!) will help you ease back into school in the fall

Use Khan Academy or YouTube to brush up on foundational skills for your upcoming courses

Volunteer - whether it's a hospital, food pantry, or somewhere else, this will help you find some purpose and practice talking to new people (which is great for your networking skills). Get in touch with the Shriver Center if you're not sure where to start!

Go on some nerdy deep dives -- is there a cool podcast about something that interests you? Find ways to really enjoy learning

This Week with CNMS Advising:

Monday 4/1

2-3 - Study Hall in TLC (UC115) with CHEM101 and BIOL141 focus

3-4 - An Insider's Guide to the Biology Department faculty panel

Tuesday 4/2

11:30-12:30 - Study Hall in TLC (UC115)

Wednesday 4/3

11-12 - Study Hall in TLC (UC115) with BIOL142 focus

12-1 - Summer Prep workshop

3-4 - Study Hall in TLC (UC115) with CHEM102 focus
