<Title>2024 AIChE Annual Conference summary</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>Fifteen CBEE students attended the 2024 AIChE Annual Student Conference in San Diego, CA from October 25, 2024 to October 28, 2024. </p>
    <div>The students presented research and / or completed in chemical engineering related events. </div><div><br></div>
    <div>AIChE's student chapter and the ChemE Jeopardy, K-12 Outreach Competition and ChemE Car teams are student led and student organized. CBEE faculty mentors, <strong>Drs. Neha Raikar</strong> and <strong>Mariajosé Castellanos </strong>advise and coach the groups thoughout the year. </div><div><br></div>
    <div>We want to recognize the participation and success of our student at the national conference! </div><div><br></div>
    <h3><strong>ChemE Jeopardy - 3rd place, National Competition</strong></h3>

    <div>Our team reached the finals, marking our presence in the finals every year since 2020. We finished in third place in an exceptionally close competition where only a small margin separated the top teams.</div>

    <h4>Top 9 -12 module for the "Chilly Chameleon Heat Exchanger"</h4><div><br></div><div><div>Our team won the <strong>top judges' award in the high-school category,</strong> marking the second consecutive year we have secured an award in this competition since we began participating.</div><div><br></div><div><div><em>Team members in alphabetical order :</em></div><div><ul><li><strong>Daniel Miranda</strong></li><li><strong>Jemma Przybocki</strong></li><li><strong>Meredith Morse</strong></li></ul></div></div><div><br></div></div><div><h3>ChemE Car Competition</h3><div>UMBC placed 26 of 51 cars for a target distance of 26.62 m.</div><div><div><br></div><div>UMBC's car successfully ran in both attempts, competing strongly in a challenging field. A special acknowledgment to Dr. Mariajosé Castellanos for coordinating the nomination process. <Title>PhD Student Research Assistantship</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>A <strong>PhD student</strong> is sought for <strong>Fall 2022</strong> to carry out a PhD project under <strong><a href="https://cbee.umbc.edu/josephson/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Dr. Tyler Josephson's</a></strong> guidance on developing and applying molecular simulation techniques and artificial intelligence tools to gain molecular-scale insights on processes in the environment to enable new solutions for cleaner air and water. </p>
    <p>Applicants should have a Masters or Bachelor’s degree in a related field and can apply to either the Environmental Engineering PhD program or the Chemical &amp; Biochemical Engineering PhD program</p>
    <p><strong><a href="https://cbee.umbc.edu/academics/graduate-degree-programs/ph-d-environmental-engineering/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Environmental Engineering PhD Program Overview</a></strong></p>
    <p>Applicant's prior coursework must include the completion of <a href="https://cbee.umbc.edu/academics/graduate-degree-programs/ph-d-environmental-engineering/#prereq" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">key prerequisites</a> courses with a B or better. The prospective students must be admitted to the Environmental Engineering Doctoral program at University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the Department of Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering</p>

    <p>Full-time PhD students admitted to the department are paid a stipend plus tuition remission and health insurance. The Fall 2022 PhD stipend is of $34,967/year.</p>
