Traces of chemicals such as PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), though outlawed in 1979, continue to be found in the environment. Alongside researchers at the U.S. Geological Survey, Dr. Ghosh will analyze PCB samples from the water to determine the most prevalent types in the Chesapeake Bay area, and eventually inform further cleanup efforts. <div><br></div><div><div>“What we are finding for our area, especially, and many other urban areas, is there are ongoing sources still,” Dr. Ghosh said. “We’re starting to figure out what these sources are.”</div><div><br></div><div><img src="https://facultystaffawards.umbc.edu/files/2016/03/Upal_Ghosh-2222-200x300.jpg" style="max-width: 100%; height: auto;"></div><div><br></div></div></div>
