The intern will provide hands-on and innovative support in fabrication, assembly and delivery of high-quality parts and prototypes, produced primarily using composites fabrication, polymer molding, and additive manufacturing (3D printing) processes.
Duties:
-Hands-on support for fabrication of parts and prototypes with guidance from experienced fabrication staff members
-Lead small development projects related to fabrication technologies, such as 3D printing, with guidance from experienced staff members
-Provide hands-on support in maintaining lab facilities, improving organization, and helping cleanup completed projects
Qualifications -
Academic Discipline Desired:
Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related technology areas
Required Skills:
Must be at least 18 years of age. Interest in hands-on prototype fabrication, including fiber-reinforced polymer composites, polymer casting and molding, adhesive bonding, and 3D printing processes. Willingness to learn and research fabrication technologies, such as 3D printing, combined with a good work ethic, the ability to multi-task, basic computer skills, and effective communication skills. Willingness to help with hands-on fabrication work and lab organization and cleanup.
Ability to work independently and willingness to proactively seek ways to help full-time staff. Attention to detail and work quality.
Desired Skills:
Experience in hands-on fabrication methods or laboratory environment. Experience with composites, structural bonding, polymer molding, or 3D printing.
