    <div class="html-content"><p><span>On February 9-10, 2022, the National Academies of Sciences (NAS), Institute of Laboratory Animal Research (ILAR) will be hosting a virtual workshop titled “Animal Welfare Challenges in Research and Education on Wildlife, Non-Model Animal Species, and Biodiversity.”</span></p><p><span>As the world confronts issues ranging from biodiversity loss to the emergence of zoonotic diseases, understanding the ecology and biology of wildlife species is more important than ever. This workshop will focus on issues associated with the unique welfare challenges of conducting research with biologically diverse vertebrates living in varied habitats. Wildlife research can be particularly trying for IACUCs because guidance resources sometimes conflict, and recommendations outlined in the current version of the </span><a href="https://olaw.nih.gov/sites/default/files/Guide-for-the-Care-and-Use-of-Laboratory-Animals.pdf" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><em><span>Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals</span></em></a><span> can present challenges.</span></p><p><span>Workshop discussion topics include:</span></p><ul><li><span>perspectives on animal welfare considerations</span><span></span></li><li><span>laws, regulations, and permits associated with fish and wildlife</span><span></span></li><li><span>wild animal population concerns</span><span></span></li><li><span>the role of veterinarians in wildlife research</span><span></span></li><li><span>restraint and handling of animals in the field, and</span><span></span></li><li><span>transition of wild animals to captive settings.</span><span></span></li></ul><p><span>This workshop is free to all. <Title>2022 CS3 Summer Fellowships</Title>

    <div class="html-content"> <h4>Applications are now being accepted for the 2022 Center for Social Science Scholarship<br>Summer Fellowships!</h4><h4><a href="https://socialscience.umbc.edu/files/2021/11/CS3-2022-Summer-Fellowship.docx" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Download the application here.</a></h4><p>The purpose of this fellowship is to support significant social science research by tenure-track or tenured faculty in the UMBC College of Arts, Humanities &amp; Social Sciences, resulting in a submittable product by December 2022.</p><p>Applications are welcome from any tenured or tenure-track faculty pursuing social science research in any CAHSS department. Fellows will receive a $6,000 award during the summer of 2022. Up to three fellowships will be awarded.</p><p>By December 2022, each Fellow agrees to complete a submittable product, which can include an external grant or fellowship proposal, journal article, policy paper, book manuscript, or book chapter; upon completion, Fellows shall provide a copy of this submitted product to the Director of the Center for Social Science Scholarship. Fellows who are preparing an external proposal are expected to work with <a href="https://socialscience.umbc.edu/grants-administration/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">MIPAR </a>for pre- and post-award assistance.</p><p><strong>Interested faculty should complete and submit an application consisting of <a href="https://socialscience.umbc.edu/files/2021/11/CS3-2022-Summer-Fellowship.docx" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><u>this downloadable 2-page cover sheet and proposal</u> </a>that adheres to the specified guidelines.
