<Title>Center and Institute Departmentally-Engaged Research (CIDER)</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Dear Colleagues,<div><br></div><div><span>To deepen the relationships between UMBC's centers/institutes and UMBC's departments, applications are invited for a new opportunity: </span><span>the<strong> Center and Institute Departmentally-Engaged Research (CIDER)</strong> seed funding program.</span></div><div><br></div><div>CIDER principal investigators must hold primary appointments in a UMBC unit that is <strong><em>not </em></strong>degree-granting (e.g., they are primarily appointed to conduct research and/or creative activities in a UMBC center or institute). Proposals must also include at least one Co-I whose primary appointment <em>is</em> in a degree-granting department. Students admitted to the program will work as teaching fellows (TFs) and peer mentors. They will also network with UC Berkeley data science students, attend special events, and be mentored by faculty. The DSS program welcomes undergraduate scholars from multiple disciplines, including the social sciences, looking at all aspects of data and its impact on society.</span></p><p><strong><span>Responsibilities:</span><span> </span></strong></p><ul><li><span>Scholars will work as TFs and peer mentors for undergraduate students in IS296 Foundations of Data Science. The class meets Mo/We 1-2:15 pm. The cohort of DSS scholars will meet as a group with the IS296 instructor. Scholars will be paid $15/hour for specific TF tasks, for 5-10 hours per week in Fall 2022.</span></li><li><span>Social science DSS scholars will attend at least two CS3 events in Fall 2022 and/or participate in research initiatives with social science faculty. <Title>FYI: Grants.gov migration to the Cloud (September 2022)</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>We have received notification about the following upcoming updates in September to Grants.gov.  Please see the information below. Since Kuali is in coordinated testing for this migration, it is not anticipated that any issues will arise for S2S proposals.<br></div><div><br></div><div><p>Grants.gov has announced that it is migrating its infrastructure to 
    AWS (cloud). The production migration will take place during a period of 
    extended downtime from 9/23/2022 at 12:01 AM ET to 9/29/2022 at 11:59 PM
     ET. Grants.gv has published information about this move and the

     Federal grantmaking agencies are aware of the planned downtime and have
     provided guidance on how submission deadlines that fall within the

<Title>NCURA Region II Fall Meeting</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><a href="https://www.ncura.edu/Education/MeetingsConferences/EventInfo.aspx?sessionaltcd=2022REGIONII" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Registration for the NCURA Region II Fall Meeting </a>is now open! This year's meeting will take place at the Hotel DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware from November 6th through November 9th. <div><br></div><div>There will be over 50 concurrent sessions/discussion groups to choose from on Monday and Tuesday. There will also be 6 half-day workshops offered on Wednesday at no additional cost. This is a great value as NCURA typically charges a $125 registration fee for workshops at its Annual Meeting. </div><div><br></div><div>This will be a great opportunity to meet and network with research administrators across the region, as well as attend sessions presented by our own UMBC colleagues. Not an NCURA member? Not a problem; you do not have to be a member to attend!</div><div><br></div><div>If you are interested in attending, please contact Mike Walsh (<a href="mailto:mwalsh3@umbc.edu">mwalsh3@umbc.edu</a>) and Rebecca O'Brien (<a href="mailto:obrienr@umbc.edu">obrienr@umbc.edu</a>).
