<Title>Call for Faculty Working Groups</Title>
<Tagline>Apply by May 31st for Fall 2023</Tagline>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>The Center for Social Science Scholarship invites
    applications for Faculty Working Groups to promote intellectual exchange in the
    social sciences and across campus. These collaborative scholarly learning
    communities will meet regularly to engage in such activities as: working on
    research projects, reading key literature, exploring new methodological
    approaches, and/or engaging in matters of public interest </span><span>related to the social sciences, across campus,
    or with community partners.</span><span></span></p>
    
    <p><span>Up to four Faculty Working Groups will be selected by the center
    director and advisory board members. Groups should be faculty-led and must
    include at least one faculty member from a social science department at UMBC.
    Additional priority will be given to groups whose members and/or areas of
    interest are multi- or interdisciplinary. Advanced graduate students may
    participate as Faculty Working Group members but may not serve as leaders.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>Faculty Working Groups can apply for up to $1,000 in annual
    support ($500 per semester); groups will also be able to apply for continuation
    funding. Groups may use funds for such items as: supporting regular group
    meetings; purchasing software, books, or other materials; hosting external
    speakers; creating scholarly resources; traveling to external sites for
    research or public engagement purposes; and other similar activities. A brief
    report of the group's activities will be due at the end of the funding period.</span></p>
    
    <p><strong><span>Apply by May 31, 2023,</span></strong><span> for groups to begin in Fall 2023.</span></p>

    <div class="html-content"><div>	The Dresher Center seeks an Associate Director to work closely with the Director and the Dresher Center team to shape and implement Dresher Center programs, grant proposals, and budget. The Associate Director will assist the Director in strategic decision making and shaping Dresher Center initiatives and goals. The Associate Director will also be responsible for serving in the Director’s place should the Director be unable to attend various Dresher Center activities or programs, or at university events or meetings.</div><div><br></div><div>Potential duties for the Associate Director include:</div><div><ol><li>Work with the Center Coordinator to schedule and coordinate Dresher Center workshops such as the "Currents: Works in Progress" series, and the Fellows and Others workshops (scheduling, recruiting/communicating with presenters, drafting/revising descriptions). Attend and facilitate workshops as needed.</li><li>With the Dresher Center team, continue to offer HTLabs and other potential programs focused on public and community-engaged research/teaching.</li><li>Participate in selecting speakers for the Humanities Forum. Attend, introduce speakers, and host meals as needed.</li><li>Help establish and expand Dresher Center programming for undergraduates, in conjunction with both the Dresher Center Director and the Director of the Humanities Scholars Program.</li><li>Assist in evaluating Dresher Center activities and writing the Dresher Center annual report.</li><li>Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and quarterly Board meetings, participate in strategic planning and budgeting. Attend monthly CAHSS chairs and directors’ meetings.</li><li>Assist in administering other center programs as needed.</li></ol><br></div><div>Open to: Tenure track faculty in humanities fields (minimum: advanced assistant or already tenured).     <blockquote><p>In response to the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, NIH
    implemented a special exception for post-submission material, allowing a
    one-page update of preliminary data as post-submission material to specified
    notices of funding opportunity (NOFOs) (see latest in series of exception
    notices NOT-OD-23-066). The Public Health Emergency is due to end on May 11,
    2023 (see NOT-OD-23-095). <em>For
    applications submitted for the May 25, 2023 receipt date and beyond, that
    special exception is ended and is replaced by the following policy. </em></p>
    
    <p>For applications submitted for the May 25, 2023 receipt date
    and beyond, NIH, AHRQ, and NIOSH will accept a one-page update with preliminary
    data as post-submission material for Type 1 R01, R21, or R03 applications,
    including resubmissions, if the NOFO used for submission allows preliminary
    data in the application. Because applications for emergency competitive
    revisions and urgent competitive revisions undergo expedited review,
    post-submission materials will not be accepted for those applications.</p></blockquote>
