<Title>Spring 2024 EFFORT certification due 9/30/2024</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p>To the UMBC Sponsored Award Community,</p>
    
    <p>Thanks to those of you who have completed your Effort Report
    Certifications!</p>
    
    <p>This is a reminder that Effort Reports for Spring 2024 are
    due no later than<strong> <u>Monday, September 30, 2024</u></strong>. </p>
    
    <p>The Spring 2024 period includes Payroll 2024-015 through
    Payroll 2024-027 (from December 31, 2023 through June 29, 2024). </p>
    
    <p>Effort Reports are both a Compliance
    Tool and a Grants Management Tool. Late effort reports are deemed out of
    compliance with federal regulations and UMBC procedures.</p>
    
    <p> </p>
    
    <p>To find out whether you have open effort reports for Spring 2024 (see page 6, Year: 2024 Period: Spring) and to learn how to certify them,
    see the attached <a href="https://umbc.box.com/s/vabm2chjxhiw16qemlqzfp8odukqx5ub" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Effort Report
    Quick Guide</a> with screenshots for your convenience. </p>
    
    <p><strong>IF YOU ARE NEW TO Effort Report Certifications:</strong> see
    page 12, #1 in the Quick Guide for information on how to gain certification
    access. You will not be able to certify without proper access in PeopleSoft.</p>
    
    <p><strong>IF THE PI ON THE PROJECT IS NOT AVAILABLE</strong> to certify
    due to termination, sabbatical, etc. see page 12, #2 in the Quick Guide for
    instructions. Requests <em>must</em> come directly from the department
    chair/dean/director.</p>

    high-caliber scholarship in the social sciences and humanities. The 2025
     program expects to provide fellowships of $200,000 to 30 exceptional 
    scholars, journalists, and public intellectuals. The funding is for a 
    period of one or two years, with the anticipated result being a book or 
    major study.</li><li>UMBC may nominate two scholars for the competition:
     one "senior" and one "junior." The senior scholar must be tenured. The 
    junior scholar must have received their terminal degree in the last 10 
    years (2014-2024, for this round). </li><li>Please note that Andrew Carnegie Fellowships are open only to citizens or permanent residents of the United States.</li><li>The
     2025 call is on the theme of political polarization in the United 
    States. Studies of polarization in other countries will be welcomed, 
    providing they offer lessons that can be applied to the United States. 
    Please keep in mind that Carnegie seeks projects that will be written to
     communicate with a broad audience. The 2025 program expects to provide fellowships of $200,000 to 30 exceptional scholars, journalists, and public intellectuals. The funding is for a period of one or two years, with the anticipated result being a book or major study.</li><li>UMBC may nominate two scholars for the competition: one "senior" and one "junior." The senior scholar must be tenured. The junior scholar must have received their terminal degree in the last 10 years (2014-2024, for this round). </li><li>Please note that Andrew Carnegie Fellowships are open only to citizens or permanent residents of the United States.</li><li>The 2025 call is on the theme of political polarization in the United States. Studies of polarization in other countries will be welcomed, providing they offer lessons that can be applied to the United States. Please keep in mind that Carnegie seeks projects that will be written to communicate with a broad audience. Fellowships will be for 12 or 24 months and must begin on the first of the month between June and September of 2025, and no later than September 1, 2025. Note that the Carnegie program allows flexibility in how you manage your time commitment. You may opt for a regular fellowship leave, or decide to teach part-time during the semester while working full-time on your project during the summer.</li><li>Curriculum vitae</li><li>Estimate of budgetary requirement.     <div class="html-content"><div>The <strong>CAORC - National Endowment for the Humanities Research Fellowship</strong> provides the opportunity for scholars to carry out advanced research and to spend significant time in one country with an Overseas Research Centers as a base. The fellowship <u>supports advanced research in the humanities or humanistic social sciences</u>. Fellowship awards are for four to six consecutive months. Selected fellows are awarded $5,000 per month of the award. </div><div><br></div><div>Fields of study include, but are not limited to, anthropology, history, philosophy, archaeology, linguistics, religious studies, languages, literature, literary criticism, ethnomusicology, and art history. <Title>Revised date: UM-BILD Accelerator Funding Applications for Cohort 2</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>The </span><span><a href="http://www.umaryland.edu/um-bild/" title="http://www.umaryland.edu/um-bild/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong><span>University of Maryland, Baltimore
    Life Science Discovery (UM-BILD) Accelerator</span></strong></a></span><span> is
    now accepting applications for Cohort 2<span> </span></span><span>Pilot<span> </span></span><span>Grants to support the translation
    of basic science research projects into commercial products that will advance
    patient care. Up to $75,000 for one-year funding is available for each accepted
    project. (Second-year funding may also be available.)</span></p>
    
    <p><span> </span></p>
    
    <p><span>Investigators working on
    technologies in the therapeutic, medical device, diagnostic, and digital health
    areas — particularly those that have the potential to address health care
    disparities or otherwise benefit residents of Baltimore — are encouraged to
    apply for funding. Experience with entrepreneurship is not required; education
    and mentorship are key components of the program.</span></p>

    application takes the form of a Letter of Intent (LOI) that is submitted
    electronically prior to the deadline of 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024</strong>.
    The UM-BILD team will review all LOIs. The highest-ranked project teams will be
    invited to submit full applications. Each of these teams will be matched with a
    coach who will assist in crafting an effective proposal with achievable
    milestones and a realistic budget. Final applications will be due in late
    October 2024, with winners announced in February 2025. Work will commence
    shortly thereafter.</span></p>

    <p><span>UM-BILD expects to fund four
    Cohort 2<span> </span></span><span>Pilo</span><span>t Grants,
    with Principal Investigators based at University of Maryland, Baltimore, University
    of Maryland, Baltimore County, and Morgan State University.</span></p>
