    <div class="html-content">The March 17, 2011 issue of  "Report on Research Compliance ", published by the by National Council of University Research Administrators and Atlantic Information Services, says the Office of Management and Budget is reviewing NIH's final rule imposing new requirements for managing and reporting on financial conflicts of interest. <Title>NSF RCR training requirement</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>UMBC must stay in compliance with the National Science Foundation's (NSF) training requirement for Responsible Conduct of Research  - see Dr. Geoff Summers' memo [<a href="http://www.umbc.edu/research/NSF-RCR%20Requirement%20Memo.pdf">http://www.umbc.edu/research/NSF-RCR%20Requirement%20Memo.pdf</a>] as a reminder of this requirement.</div><div><br></div><div>As mentioned in Dr. Summers' memo, all students or postdoctoral fellows who are supported by an NSF award or not initially identified on the proposal but hired later must complete responsible conduct of research (RCR) training. Without such verification, no student or postdoctoral fellow may work on an NSF-sponsored project.</div><div><br></div><div>UMBC uses the on-line training modules via the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) to track and document this training. Training topics are customized for a number of specific disciplines including Biomedical, Humanities, Social and Behavioral, and Physical Sciences, and Engineering.  Information and instructions to register are found at <a href="http://www.umbc.edu/research/ORPC/rcr_training.html">http://www.umbc.edu/research/ORPC/rcr_training.html</a>.</div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><span>The National Institutes of Health recently posted new "all about grants" podcasts, which address "navigating through" a funding opportunity to be sure no details are missed and essential elements of writing a cover letter to go with the grant application. The podcasts are described as "conversations with NIH staff members...designed for investigators, fellows, students, research administrators, and others" and provided by the Office of Extramural Research.
