The Society of Research Administrators International / Chesapeake Chapter is soliciting presenters and session proposal ideas for the 2015 Chapter meeting to be held in Baltimore, Maryland at the John Hopkins University on March 20, 2015. You can present by yourself or with a panel or topics related to research administration, practices or procedures. The call for proposals will be posted soon to the SRA/Chesapeake Chapter website.

UMBC will soon be convening an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) to ensure our research continues to conform to the NIH Guidelines associated with plant, pathogen, transgenic animal and recombinant DNA research Committee members have been selected and the registration of the IBC is pending approval from the NIH Office of Biotechnology Activities (OBA). The first IBC meeting is tentatively planned for late October.

The overall purpose of the IBC is to:

• advise and approve investigator-initiated protocols,
• evaluate potential risk to the environment and public health,
• set responsibilities for investigator compliance with surveillance, data reporting, and adverse event reporting, and
• provide annual reports to the OBA.

The Dresher Center invites proposals for new Faculty Working Groups in the Humanities. Dresher Center Faculty Working Groups are collaborative, interdisciplinary communities of scholars working on humanities projects, research concerns, or matters of public interest. The Center provides support for the formation of these groups in an effort to promote intellectual exchange and support research activity in the humanities among scholars across campus. Working groups meet regularly and can use their funds to travel to sites or archives, host speakers, explore technologies, create new resources or materials, or other similar activities.

Faculty Working Groups can apply for up to $1,000 in annual support ($500 per semester) for their first-year activities. Priority will be given to groups with at least one member from a humanities department.

Fundable activities include travel to sites or archives, speaker presentations, use/purchase of technology, creation of resources or materials, and support for regular meetings or workshops, etc.

Deadlines for best consideration are November 3rd for groups beginning in spring 2015 and April 1st for groups beginning in fall 2015.
