<Title>NIH FY2020 Grants Policy Statement: ORCID Requirements</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><p><span>National Institutes Health (NIH) has published the revised Grants Policy Statement(NIHGPS) for FY 2020 </span><span><span><a href="https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-20-043.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-20-043.html</a></span></span><span><span>. </span></span><span>This revision is applicable to all NIH grants and cooperative agreements with budget periods beginning on or after October 1, 2019 and supersedes the NIHGPS dated October 2018. While this revision does not introduce any new material, it incorporates new and modified requirements, clarifies certain policies and implements changes to statutes, regulations and policies that were previously implemented.</span></p><p><span>The most notable changes are:</span></p><p><span>•<strong>NIHGPS Section 11.3.13.1 – Statement of Appointment – Addition of language related to ORCID ID requirements.  Relevant NIH Notice Number: NOT-OD-19-10_ Requirement for ORCID iDs for Individuals Supported by Research Training, Fellowship, Research Education, and Career Development Awards Beginning in FY 2020</strong></span></p><p><span><span><a href="https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-19-109.html" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><strong>https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-19-109.html </strong></a><strong></strong></span></span></p><div><br></div><p><span><strong><em>Updates to Requirement:</em></strong> “The requirement for ORCID identifiers is incorporated into the appointment process for trainees, scholars, and participants supported by institutional research training, career development, and research education awards that require appointments through the xTrain system, including the following: T03, T15, T32, T34, T35, T37, T42, T90/R90, TL1, TL4, TU2, K12/KL2, R25, R38, RL5, and RL9…</span></p><p><span>At the time of appointment, the xTrain system will check whether appointees have ORCID IDs and appointments will be not be accepted for agency review unless an ORCID ID is linked to the individual's eRA Commons Personal Profile.”</span></p><p><span>•<strong>NIHGPS Section 12.4.1 – Application – Addition of language related to ORCID ID requirements.     Clampitt has been hired as the newest Financial Accountant for the Office of
    Contract and Grant Accounting.  An alum of UMBC, Joe comes to us from
    Parcel Delivery Express where he was a Billing and Receivables Manager.</span></p>

    <p><span>Over the next couple weeks we will
    begin transitioning specific sponsors to Joe’s area of responsibility.

<Title>NSF Revised PAPPG for use in 2020</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Dear Colleagues:</div><div> </div><div>The National Science Foundation is currently working to finalize a revised<em> Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide </em>(PAPPG) for use in 2020. We anticipate that the revised PAPPG will be released in the coming months and, as is standard practice, will be effective 90 days after its release.</div><div> </div><div>We wanted to highlight some important information to assist the community in preparing for this new PAPPG as it relates to the preparation and submission of the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Support sections of NSF proposals that fall under this revised PAPPG.</div><div> </div><div><span>·<span>                </span></span>NSF is partnering with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to use <u><span><a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sciencv/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>SciENcv: Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae</span></a></span></u> as an NSF-approved format for use in preparation of both the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Support sections of an NSF proposal.</div><div><span>·<span>                </span></span>Use of an NSF-approved format for the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Support documents will be required upon <u>implementation</u> of the PAPPG. NSF is encouraging proposers to begin using SciENcv for preparation of the Biographical Sketch now.</div><div><span>·<span>                </span></span>SciENcv allows proposers to integrate their ORCiD to enable pre-population for the Biographical Sketch. Additional information is available on the <u><span><a href="https://orcid.org/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>ORCiD website</span></a></span></u>.</div><div><span>·<span>                </span></span>SciENcv will produce NSF-compliant PDF versions of these documents. <Title>Welcome Financial Accountant Britney Molin</Title>

<Title>Update to IRB Special Topics - Participant Compensation</Title>

    <div class="html-content">The IRB recently revised its webpage guidance for investigators to use when proposing compensation for research participants for their time or travel or be offered in-kind compensation for their participation in human subject use research. To process the invoice payments in PAW, each person, including PIs, must activate their account by entering the portal <a href="https://my.umbc.edu/go/paw-procurement">https://my.umbc.edu/go/paw-procurement</a>. Once the account is activated, please contact the Procurement to assign you the role of the initiator or approver. The PIs are required to activate their accounts only.</span></p><p>
