<Title>Invitation to Join the SSN Academics in Annapolis Cohort (2026 Session)</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>Dear colleagues,<br></div><div><br></div><div>We are excited to share a new opportunity from the Scholar Strategy Network's DC/MD chapter: the Academics in Annapolis Cohort, a structured and supportive way for you to contribute to real-time debates during the upcoming Maryland General Assembly session (January-March 2026).</div><div><br>The cohort is designed for academics (defined broadly!) at any level of experience with policy engagement—whether you are new to legislative advocacy or already active in this space. Participants will receive training (as needed), be connected to advocacy partners, and choose from a range of flexible ways to contribute during the session. The time commitment is minimal, but your impact would be much greater.</div><div><br>If this sounds interesting to you, please see the attached overview with more details about the cohort, as well as instructions for signing up [by filling out <a href="https://forms.gle/Zg7xAdSLFkMgnKre6" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">this short interest form</a> by December 15, 2025]. Kuhn Library &amp; Gallery at UMBC has announced new Research Data Services and Digital Scholarship Services, please see the information below. <div><br></div><div><div><p><strong>New! </strong></p><ul><li>UMBC now has open access agreements with some publishers: <a href="https://lib.guides.umbc.edu/c.php?g=1380535" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">UMBC Open Access Agreements</a>.</li><li>Pending the approval of the President, UMBC now has an <a href="https://lib.guides.umbc.edu/UMBC-Open-Access-Policy" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Open Access Policy</a>.</li></ul><p><strong>ScholarWorks@UMBC</strong></p><p>The Library will add works to <a href="https://mdsoar.org/handle/11603/14" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">ScholarWorks@UMBC</a> for
     you. If you've previously sent a list of publications, or link to a 
    list of publications, you don't need to do anything. Each year, we'll

     allows you to organize and share your research notes and data with your
     research group so that you can easily work together and communicate. It
     includes access control, change history, disaster-recovery back-ups, 
    and more. For free access via the UMBC subscription using your myUMBC 
    login, when you login, select UMBC from the list of institutions with 
    single sign-on access.</p><p><strong><br></strong></p><p><strong>Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)</strong></p><p>UMBC has a membership in ICSPR,
     an international consortium of about 700 academic institutions and 
    research organizations. ICPSR provides leadership and training in data 
    access, curation, and methods of analysis for the social science 
    research community. ICPSRmaintains a data archive of more than 500,000 
    files of research in the social sciences. UMBC's
     membership gives all authorized library users free full access. Be sure
     you use your UMBC email address when creating an account to be

     Time! There are a bunch of fast and easy ways to quickly load lots of 
    your works' citations into ORCID then into Digital Measures. Many 
    publishers and professional organizations can also automatically load 
    materials into ORCID for you if you give them permission. <a href="https://orcid.org/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">ORCID</a> is
     a type of author identifier, so be sure to use the form of your name 
    that you prefer to use on publications and to give the University of

<Title>Undergraduate Data Science and AI Scholars &#8211; Call for Applications</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><p>We are pleased to announce the Undergraduate Data Science and AI Scholars program for supporting students in Spring 2026. The Data Science and AI Scholars program welcomes undergraduate scholars from multiple disciplines, including non-STEM majors, who will examine all aspects of data and its impact on society. This year, scholars will have the opportunity to be teaching fellows or research fellows. Scholars will be able to work on research projects in Climate Science, Deepfake detection, and other data science-related projects. </p><p>Students selected through this effort will be part of the Data Science and AI Scholars program, which will be run in partnership withthe <a href="https://cwit.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Center for Women in Technology</a> (CWIT), the <a href="https://informationsystems.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Information Systems Department</a> (IS), and the <a href="https://socialscience.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Center for Social Science Scholarship</a> (CS3). </p><p><strong>Center for Social Science Scholarship (CS3) Responsibilities:</strong></p></div><div><p><strong>Research Fellows</strong></p><ul><li>Scholars who will work as research fellows will work on a supervised research project and be mentoredby faculty. Scholars will be paid $20.00/hour for specific tasks, for 5 - 10 hours per week.</li><li>Scholars will attend at least two events in Spring 2026 and/or participate in research initiatives andprofessional development for their leadership growth and mentoring.     <div class="html-content"><div>Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) SCIPE program (Enhancing the Transdisciplinary Research Ecosystem for Earth and Environmental Science with Dedicated Cyber Infrastructure Professionals), CGC-SCIPE is a collaborative effort between the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) - iHARP and the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Sciences (UMCES). The project aims to strengthen the research capacity in Earth and Environmental Sciences by leveraging High Performance Computing (HPC), Artificial Intelligence, and data-driven modeling, while developing the next generation of Cyber Infrastructure Professionals (CIPs).  This project, as part of the iHARP center and Mdata lab, invites applications for UMBC CIP Graduate Fellows (UM-CIP Fellows).</div><div><br></div><div><strong>About the Fellowship</strong></div><div>The UM-CIP Graduate Fellowship supports a senior PhD student whose dissertation research aligns with Earth or Environmental Science and who seeks to incorporate HPC or advanced AI into their work.
