    (Data Use Agreements, Teaming Agreements, and </span><span>Cooperative Research and Development Agreements) are
    now being routed through Kuali Research.<span>

    <p><span>This is a
    reminder that Effort Reports for Spring 2020 </span><span>are available
    and ready for certification. </span><span>The Spring 2020 period
    includes Payroll 2020015 through Payroll 2020026 (from January 05, 2020 through
    June 20, 2020). Certifications are due <strong><u>September 30, 2020</u></strong>.</span></p>
    
    <p><span>Please
    remember that Effort Reports are both a Compliance Tool and a Grants Management
    Tool. After reviewing payroll charges, work with your business managers if any
    changes are needed. <u>Payroll cost transfers (retros) must be processed prior
    to certification of Effort Reports</u>.  <strong> </strong></span></p>

<Title>Update-COI Notification emails</Title>

    </span></p><p>07/25/20-Update<br></p><p>While
    upgrading the COI module, emails requesting PI’s complete a disclosure were
    sent out to a set of users.  Some received them on Monday evening around
    6PM and others received them Friday evening between 8:45-8:55PM.  Please
    disregard them.  <br></p><p>If you have completed your disclosure thus far in response to the notification, you have done no harm.<br></p>
    
    
    
    <p>We
    greatly apologize for this communication error.  We have notified Kuali
    who is taking steps to identify and correct the issue as quickly as possible.</p>
    
    
    
    <p>Please
    feel free to reach out to me, Tim or Chanell should you have any questions
    regarding the status of your COI disclosure.    </p>
    
    <p><span>Update- We have fixed
    the duplicate projects appearing in COI modules issue, so you are able to disclose.
    However, some users are still receiving duplicate notifications. My apologies
    for this inconvenience, we are continuing to work on resolving the
    notifications issue with Kuali. </span></p>

    <div class="html-content">Members of the UMBC community receive, from time to time, requests from investigators unaffiliated with UMBC to recruit participants for human subjects research. Participants are generally students, but faculty and staff may be recruited as well.<div><br></div><div>These investigators must request permission from the IRB before recruiting participants and before posting flyers on campus bulletin boards or sending email announcements to the general community or specific campus groups.  </div><div><br></div><div><div>The ORPC will advise such investigators to submit a request following the IRB's <a href="https://research.umbc.edu/recruitment-from-outside-of-campus/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">recruitment request process</a>.  We recommend they follow the IRBs guidance on formats for <a href="https://research.umbc.edu/advertisements-and-recruitment-materials/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">recruitment materials</a>.  Additionally, the ORPC will also point these investigators to Student Affairs <a href="https://campuslife.umbc.edu/student-organizations/student-organization-resources/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">resources</a> and <a href="http://umbc.edu/policies/pdfs/UMBC%20VI-13.00.02%20UMBC%20Policy%20for%20Posting%20of%20Notices%20and%20Event%20Roadway%20Signage%20on%20the%20UMBC%20Campus.pdf" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">policies</a> for posting notices in campus facilities. </div></div><div><br></div><div>If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact us at <a href="mailto:compliance@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">compliance@umbc.edu.</a> </div></div>

    <div class="html-content"><span>Using feedback from investigators and IRB reviewers, the ORPC has updated wording to various sections of consent document templates. These updates were made to :</span><br><br><strong>Purpose :</strong><span> informing participants the study purpose will include easy to understand language</span><br><strong>Procedures</strong><span>: provides updated details on how and when study participation will continue and updated wording on the participant's acknowledgement  for audio/video recording</span><br><strong>Voluntary Participation</strong><span> - updated for participant's information of the length of time study data is retained</span><br><strong>Confidentiality:</strong><span>  adds information on when data is stored on a secure server</span><br><strong>Contacts and Questions:</strong><span> clarified for participants who has responsibility for discussing and obtaining consent  </span><br><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>The updated forms have been uploaded to the </span><a href="https://research.umbc.edu/orpc-documents/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">ORPC Forms and Documents </a><span>page as well as the various web pages relevant to each document's use.     <div class="html-content"><span>Our office has identified a series of duplicate Kuali emails for projects (proposals) sent to PIs/faculty that reference a </span><strong><em>proposal </em></strong><span>number as well as </span><strong><em>institutional proposal</em></strong><span> number with the same title.  Both numbers may also be appearing in "All Project View" section of a PIs/faculty Kuali COI disclosures.  </span><div><br></div><div>I have submitted a request ticket to Kuali to identify and correct the issue.   If a PI or faculty member have received such emails (and we haven't reached out to you) or identify a duplicate entry in your COI disclosure, please an email to <a href="mailto:compliance@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">compliance@umbc.edu</a>. </div><div><br></div><div>The ORPC and Kuali Research will post a message on our groups page once Kuali has fixed the issue. </div></div>
