Dresher Center Fall 2024 Fellows

This semester, three fellows will join us in the Dresher Center.

Nicole King, Associate Professor in American Studies, will work on her upcoming book project, The Ungentrifiable City,
which traces the rise of urban renewal in the neoliberal city and
grounds research in the often-overlooked fight for community-led
development. The book explains how scholars can work with communities to
fight back and reclaim the public’s right to the city from private
    developers.

Michael Nance, Associate Professor in Philosophy, is working on the first English translation of the political writings of the important early left-Kantian philosopher Johann Benjamin Erhard. In his 1795 text On the Right of the People to a Revolution, Erhard develops a Kantian approach to human rights, which, together with his social theory of the structural causes of injustice, allows him to argue for a right to revolution under conditions of structural injustice.

Sasha Krongos, an M.A. candidate in Historical Studies, will be
researching popular printed material, including women’s magazines,
‘shelter’ magazines, and model home catalogs to examine their treatment
of women’s participation in home-building and home-design between the
    years 1890 and 1920.

Please join us in congratulating these fellows.

The course aims to enable you to read prose and poetry with the aid of a dictionary and grammar handbook as soon as possible, and to prepare you for continuing study of Ancient Greek in GREK 102, Elementary Greek II. The further goal is to encourage you to pursue the study of Greek further, reading the works of ancient authors in intermediate GREK 201 and advanced 300-level or 400-level classes. For further information, contact the instructor. Prof. Michael Lane, Ancient Studies, mflane@umbc.edu.

You can use that internship experience to make some, and build upon network connections, which are extremely valuable for when you do go on your job search." Teachers like Dr. Snyder don't only teach in the classroom; they also help students find internships by giving them advice on where to look, by sending internship opportunities through mass emails, or teaching classes on how to improve their resumes and cover letters, and how to prepare for interviews. Throughout the internship search teachers offer support and feedback, guiding students through challenges and celebrating their successes.

Student Experiences -

Melanie says internships are important so, “Get to know your professors well and don’t be afraid to ask them for advice because it may lead you down the perfect road to find your passion.” She was a communications intern for our own Retriever athletics program!

Scherrie was accepted to intern for UMBC Interdisciplinary CoLab: FindingBlackGirhood: A Digital Archive.
