    <div class="html-content"><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>Each year, three national higher education organizations--the <a href="http://www.aascu.org/programs/ADP/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">American Democracy Project</a>, <a href="http://www.aascu.org/programs/adp/democracycommitment/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">The Democracy Commitment</a>, and <a href="https://www.naspa.org/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">NASPA</a>--jointly host a <a href="http://www.aascu.org/meetings/clde16/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement (CLDE)</a> meeting. The meeting is an important forum for people interested in how colleges and universities can prepare students to be active contributors to their communities and democracy. </div><div><br></div><div>The 2016 CLDE meeting will take place June 2nd-4th in Indianapolis, Indiana. As with the Imagining America conference earlier this semester, the CLDE meeting will include people in many different campus roles, including faculty, administration, staff, and students.</div><div><br></div><div>Read the <strong><a href="http://apps.naspa.org/cfp/evt_frm_user.cfm?event_id=395" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Call for Proposals</a></strong> and consider submitting a proposal by the February 1, 2016 deadline.</div><div><br></div><div><div>UMBC's delegations to the annual CLDE meetings have been among the largest, and participants have had opportunities to forge strong connections within and beyond the UMBC team. <Title>Paid Fellowship Spring 2016 - The Shriver Center</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>The Shriver Center is launching an exploratory Public Service Scholars program this Spring.  The Baltimore RISE Fellowship (<strong>R</strong>egional <strong>I</strong>mpact through <strong>S</strong>ector <strong>E</strong>ngagement) is seeking 8 students interested in exploring cross-sector approaches to solving social issues.</div><div><br></div><div>We are seeking current juniors, seniors, and graduate students who are academically strong. The fellowship will pay a stipend of $2,000.</div><div><br></div><div>The Fellowship Has 4 main Components:</div><div><br></div><div><ul><li>[Experience] Fellows will be placed at a nonprofit or government site and work 120 hours under the mentorship of a senior-level professional</li><li>[Exploration] Fellows will attend an orientation and seminars to strengthen their understanding of working across sectors</li><li>[Exposure] Fellows will attend meetings, events, and networking opportunities to connect with Baltimore’s leaders</li><li>[Practice] Fellows will work together in groups to put their knowledge and skills into practice, exploring sector engagement to address a Baltimore issue and culminating in a presentation to stakeholders</li></ul></div><div>Applications are due on <strong>12/21</strong> and students will be notified by 1/8.  Once accepted, students are expected to attend an orientation on 1/27 from 4pm-8pm at UMBC. Fellows must complete the internship requirement of 120 hours within the semester in addition to attending a few seminars and events throughout the semester. <Title>Michael Abrams presents 2015 Shinogle Fellowship Lecture</Title>

    <p>Shinogle Fellowship recipient Michael Abrams presented his
    dissertation research on the  impact of news coverage on the dissemination
    of prescription drug warnings issued by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration
    at a lecture in the Commons Skylight Room on December 4. Michael is a Ph.D.
    candidate in Public Policy, and a senior research analyst at the Hilltop
    Institute.</p><p>The family of Dr. Judith Shinogle established the award in her
    memory to provide support for outstanding doctoral students committed to health

    <div class="html-content">Still looking for a winter course? Gender and Women's Studies 290: Issues and Phases in Women's Health still has open spots available in this fully online course. This course will provide an overview of issues in women's health as they
     occur in various phases of women's lives. Course material will focus on
     both the biological understandings and social meanings of puberty, 
    menstruation, reproduction and menopause. We will also discuss specific 
    health issues that women face. Throughout the course, we will address 
    the specific health needs of women from different races, cultures, and 
    ethnicities.
    
    An online course is conducted entirely on Blackboard, UMBC's course
