Dr. Lusardi is Senior Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research, Director of the Initiative for Financial Decision-Making, and Professor (by courtesy) at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Dr. Lusardi’s remarks take up the question of financial literacy among ordinary people around the world. <Title>Nominate a student for the Mary Akaras Scholarship Book Award!</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><div>The Dresher Center for the Humanities seeks nominations for students eligible to receive the <strong>Mary Akaras Scholarship Book Award</strong> for $500 toward the purchase of texts. The student should have a minimum GPA of 3.00, should be pursuing a major in a Humanities field, should not already be receiving significant scholarship funds, and should not be in his/her final semester at UMBC. </div><div><br></div><div>Faculty members are asked to nominate students with a short letter of recommendation sent electronically to Kate Drabinski at <a href="mailto:aoskoz@umbc.edu" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">drabinsk@umbc.edu</a>. A student may self-nominate but a faculty letter is needed in support of his or her application. Letters should include any information, including academic and professional achievements, that make the candidate an extraordinary student. Held during Summer Session One, student interns will work on interdisciplinary project teams to conduct research, create effective narratives, and develop public-facing final products that support the goals of on and off campus community-engaged organizations and scholars. Open to all majors, this is an excellent opportunity for students in <strong>STEM</strong> fields to learn to tell effective stories and for students in <strong>social science and humanities</strong> fields to gain research and technical skills.</p><p><strong>Participants who successfully complete the internship receive a $3000 stipend and a tuition scholarship for the 3-credit internship course.</strong></p><p><strong>Program Dates</strong><br>CoLab 2025 will be held during Summer Session One and meets in-person from <strong>Monday, June 2nd through Friday, June 27th</strong>. PLEASE NOTE: During these dates, student interns are required to dedicate Monday through Friday from 9:30 am – 4:00 pm to the in-person, on-campus internship. This is a fantastic opportunity for your students to develop their editorial and critical thinking skills while contributing to the academic community! </p><p><strong>Peer-Reviewer Role: </strong>As a peer reviewer for YSW, students will play an important role in the submission review process. Their task will be to assess whether a submission meets the criteria for publication in YSW. By serving as peer-reviewers, students will be actively engaged in the editing process while gaining rewarding experience in writing, research, and publishing! </p><p><strong>Who Should Apply: </strong>We are looking for students with an interest in writing and rhetoric who would like to engage with the academic publication process.     <div class="html-content"><p><span>The Dresher Center for the Humanities is seeking an Acting Associate Director for the Fall 2025 semester <strong>(this is a one semester sabbatical replacement position)</strong>. Eligible applicants are tenure track faculty in humanities fields (minimum: advanced assistant or already tenured). </span></p><br><p><span>The Associate Director will be engaged in the following activities:</span></p><br><p><span>With Director:</span></p><ul><li><span>develops and implements strategies to support and promote Humanities scholarship at UMBC</span></li><li><span>develops pedagogical and professional development workshops to promote Humanities research and scholarship</span></li><li><span>helps coordinate and attends CURRENTS work in Progress and Residential Fellows Seminars</span></li><li><span>makes decisions on scholarly development and completion fund applications</span></li></ul><br><p><span>Oversees:</span></p><ul><li><span>The Humanities Retrievers network for undergraduate majors and minors in Humanities disciplines.</span></li><li><span>develops undergraduate research and internship programming as well as graduate school and career readiness in the Humanities for the Humanities Retrievers (in conjunction with Humanities Scholars and other student groups)</span></li></ul><br><p><span>As a member of the Dresher Center staff:</span></p><ul><li><span>develops major Center initiatives and programs</span></li><li><span>assesses Dresher Center activities</span></li><li><span>attends Humanities Forum events</span></li><li><span>attends bi-weekly staff meetings and quarterly Dresher Center Board meeting</span></li><li><span>with Program Manager, works with other units to support public, accessible, and community-engaged research/teaching at UMBC</span></li></ul><br><p><span>Interested applicants should submit a one-page letter of interest and a c.v.
