Aiyda Evans goes "viral" with her Undergraduate Students

We want to share with our LLC community news about a Social Justice Project that Aiyda Evans (Cohort 19) has carried out with her students at Morgan State University in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology.

Aiyda organized a studentd led staff to chair the “Social Justice Mannequin Challenge Time Capsule,” which is a platform for students at Morgan State University to express their social concerns especially in the aftermath of the presidential elections of 2016. On November 18th, 2016, an important number of students collectively staged a “Mannequin Challenge,” which has been trending and has over 50K shares, likes, and views across social media platforms. Here is the youtube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHsJzOeUtjQ&feature=youtu.be

The Baltimore Sun has recently reported about this performance. You can read the article here: http://tinyurl.com/jl9gz2z.

In a reflection about her involvement in this project, Aiyda said “I am so grateful to have the opportunity to impact the lives of my students in a positive way. I truly believe that sociology is a discipline with the power to change minds and lives for the better of all society. I also believe that educators have a responsibility to "Teach Well" because it absolutely matters! I am so excited for my students. They really have "changed" their minds - and now see that they do have the power to make the world listen to their concerns. Our work however, is just beginning - we still have much to do!"

Congratulations Aiyda!
