Paintings included in Altered State: Painting Myanmar in a Time of Transition
are from the collection of contemporary Myanmar paintings of Ian

The goal of this field course is
to provide students with an applied and active learning experience in
the Tropics through a mixture of interdisciplinary fieldwork,

directly engage with rural communities through integrated fieldwork and
service projects, gaining hands-on experience in social science field research (participatory photo mapping), environmental engineering fieldwork (water quality monitoring), and field ecology
techniques (monitoring cloud forests and avian biodiversity).
Together, the group will work to weave together these three fieldwork
efforts into a more comprehensive understanding of climate change
impacts at the forest-water nexus as it is represented in the Monteverde

This would be a GREAT opportunity for anyone who is interested in graduate education itself. For more than five decades, the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS) has been the national voice for the graduate dean community. CGS is the only national organization in the United States that is dedicated solely to the advancement of graduate education and research. CGS accomplishes its mission through advocacy in the policy arena, innovative research, and the development and dissemination of best practices. CGS also acts as a convening authority, organizing major events that bring together graduate deans and other stakeholders to discuss and take action on a broad range of issues affecting graduate education today.
