    <div class="html-content"><span><p><span>We are pleased to announce that </span><a href="https://saph.umbc.edu/ftfaculty/person/uk88170/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Dr. Aubrey Jackson Soller</span></a> <span>will be joining the Center for Social Science Scholarship (CS3) as our next Associate Director. Dr. Jackson Soller is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the </span><a href="https://saph.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Public Health</span></a><span>. She also holds an affiliate appointment in the </span><a href="https://gwst.umbc.edu/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo"><span>Department of Gender, Women’s, + Sexualities Studies</span></a><span>.  Recently named a 2025-2026 CAHSS Research Fellow, Dr. Jackson Soller brings a wealth of social science knowledge and administrative experience to the role.  </span></p><p><span>Together with our director, she will help coordinate the Social Sciences Forum, faculty working groups, and initiatives for undergraduate research, among other programs.  CS3 is thrilled that Dr. Jackson Soller will begin in this position this summer.    </span></p><div><span><br></span></div></span></div>

<Title>Steven Dashiell awarded ACLS HBCU grant</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div><strong>Dr. Steven Dashiell</strong>, LLC PhD ’20, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Gender, Women's and Sexuality Studies, was one of twelve awardees of an <a href="https://www.acls.org/news/acls-announces-2025-acls-hbcu-faculty-fellows-and-grantees/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">American Council of Learned Societies HBCU grant</a> this year.  The monies provided will allow him to start the work for his first book, which will be about discourses surrounding African American men, the value of leisure, and how these third-spaces facilitate a male connection often overlooked as just “playing basketball.”</div><div><br></div><div><em>Congratulations on receiving this prestigious award, Steven!</em></div></div>

<Title>UMBC Special Collections' Maryland Tradition Archive Presents its Annual Digitization Day</Title>

    <div class="html-content"><div>The MTA is hosting its second annual Digitization Day for the Ashley 
    Minner collection. Ashley's collection focuses on the Lumbee 
    migration from North Carolina to Baltimore during the mid-twentieth 
    century. This community archiving event is an opportunity for the 
    community to share their history, preserve their materials, and help 
    grow the American Indian archive in the Baltimore region. This year we 
    will have six scanning stations for photos and documents which will 
    capture metadata and recorded individual short stories, a longer format 
    oral history station, as well as an information station for the 
    collection and for MARMIA's AV digitization.</div><div><br></div><div>The event will be held <strong>off campus</strong> on:</div><div>Saturday, April 26 11:30am-3PM</div><div>South Broadway Baptist Church</div><div>211 S.     studies scholar (University of Porto) originally from Brazil. The 
    restaurant will be open to the public and we will have mini-zines to 
    share the storytelling project.<strong> A shuttle will be available for UMBC
