    <div class="html-content">The NEH program Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities funds workshops and institutes on various topics in the digital humanities. For most institutes, attendance is free and includes reimbursement for travel and lodging.     <p><span><strong>Michael T. Walsh</strong> (PhD, Public Policy, Class of 2012), had his first book published on December 11, 2017 by Arcadia Publishing/The History Press.  The book is entitled <strong><em>Baltimore Prohibition: Wet and Dry in the Free State </em></strong>and is a more condensed version of his doctoral dissertation purposely geared towards a more general readership.. </span></p>
    <p><span>Michael, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, is a historian who specializes in both twentieth-century U.S. history as well as local history. Michael majored in history and received his undergraduate degree from Loyola University Maryland. He obtained a master's degree in historical studies at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and subsequently earned his PhD at UMBC in public policy with a concentration in policy history. Michael currently teaches U.S. history as an adjunct professor at the Community College of Baltimore County and is a grants and contracts manager and training coordinator in the Office of Sponsored Programs at UMBC. Michael’s wife Jennifer is also currently a Ph.D. student in the Public Policy program.</span></p>

    <p><span>The Summer 2018 White House Internship Program <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/participate/internships/apply" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">application</a> is now open. </span></p>

    <p><span>The application portal will remain open until <span><span>11:59PM EST</span></span> on <span><span>January 12, 2018</span></span>.  Any applications received after the deadline will not be considered. </span></p>

    <p><span>The Summer 2018 White House Internship Program term runs from <span><span>May 30 to August 10, 2018</span></span>.  All applicants must be at least 18 years of age by the internship program start date, and must be able to commit to the full internship term to be eligible.  Additionally, applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet at least one of the following criteria to apply:</span></p>
    <p><span> </span></p>
    <p><span>- Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four year institution).</span></p>
    <p><span> </span></p>
    <p><span>- Have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four year institution) no more than two years before the internship program start date.</span></p>
    <p><span> </span></p>
    <p><span>- Are a veteran of the United States Armed Forces who possesses a high school diploma or its equivalent and has served on active duty—for any length of time—in the two years preceding the internship program start date.</span></p>
    <p><span> </span></p>

<Title>Faculty Achievement Update!</Title>

    <div class="html-content">Fatma Daglar and Gina Beck recently both gave major performances in the area.  Fatma, affiliate artist in oboe, performed the Martinu Oboe Concerto with the Annapolis Symphony and the recording will be streamed on <a href="https://www.yourclassical.org/programs/performance-today/episodes/2017/12/12" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Performance Today </a>for the next 30 days! Gina Beck, part-time lecturer in ethnomusicology, recently performed with <a href="https://www.embassyofindonesia.org/index.php/event/klenengan-jawa/" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">Klenengan Jawa</a> at gamelan concert at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Washington, DC.<div><br></div>
