Baltimore Prohibition: Wet and Dry in the Free State
Michael T. Walsh (PhD, Public Policy, Class of 2012), had his first book published on December 11, 2017 by Arcadia Publishing/The History Press. The book is entitled Baltimore Prohibition: Wet and Dry in the Free State and is a more condensed version of his doctoral dissertation purposely geared towards a more general readership..
Michael, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, is a historian who specializes in both twentieth-century U.S. history as well as local history. Michael majored in history and received his undergraduate degree from Loyola University Maryland. He obtained a master's degree in historical studies at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and subsequently earned his PhD at UMBC in public policy with a concentration in policy history. Michael currently teaches U.S. history as an adjunct professor at the Community College of Baltimore County and is a grants and contracts manager and training coordinator in the Office of Sponsored Programs at UMBC. Michael’s wife Jennifer is also currently a Ph.D. student in the Public Policy program.

Summer 2018 White House Internship Program
The Summer 2018 White House Internship Program application is now live on the White House website, along with more information about the program and requirements to apply. Please share with those who may be interested in applying for the Summer 2018 term, which runs from May 30 – August 10, 2018.

Summer 2018 White House Internship Program
The Summer 2018 White House Internship Program application is now open.
The application portal will remain open until 11:59PM EST on January 12, 2018. Any applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
The Summer 2018 White House Internship Program term runs from May 30 to August 10, 2018. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age by the internship program start date, and must be able to commit to the full internship term to be eligible. Additionally, applicants must be U.S. citizens and meet at least one of the following criteria to apply:
- Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four year institution).
- Have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to-four year institution) no more than two years before the internship program start date.
- Are a veteran of the United States Armed Forces who possesses a high school diploma or its equivalent and has served on active duty—for any length of time—in the two years preceding the internship program start date.
The White House Internship Program is highly competitive. Applicants are selected based on their demonstrated commitment to public service, leadership in the community, and commitment to the Trump Administration. Now in its 20th year, with alumni from over 170 colleges and universities worldwide, SGPS is dedicated to the preservation of cultural heritage. We offer students the opportunity to study and travel in Italy where they acquire hands-on experience in preservation and restoration. Our courses are open to students from various disciplines, both undergraduate and graduate. All lessons are taught in English.

Preservation Field Trip – Italy (June 25 – July 4)
A ten-day trip visiting Siena, Florence and Rome: places of cultural interest, the urban and historical development of each town, and specialized visits to places of interest to restorers.
