This Friday, August 24, 2018, The Graduate School at UMBC will host the annual Teaching & Learning Workshop, which serves as campus-wide TA training, and a workshop for all students who are interested in teaching. You do not have to be a TA to attend.
Now that UMBC is a member of the national Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), with its own CIRTL at UMBC,
graduate students can earn "units" toward a teaching certification that will be managed by CIRTL at UMBC, and administered by UMBC's Faculty Development Center. This workshop on Friday "counts" as one of the 6 activities needed to earn an "Associate" level certification through CIRTL.
Other universities such as Johns Hopkins, Yale, College Park, Purdue, Northwestern, etc. have CIRTL certifications, and it is becoming a nice national credential to have as students approach the job market.

This event is free. We have room for 100+ graduate students. Breakfast will be served.
Following the seminar, there will be a 1-hour lunch, 1:00 - 2:00 PM, that is part of the "Deluty Series on Holistic Graduate Student Development," honoring retired Associate Prof. and Associate Dean, Dr. Robert H. Deluty. This is the 2nd talk in the series that started in 2017. We will discuss work/life balance and the lunch is free. RSVP here:
These two events listed above are open to all graduate students, full-time and part-time, certificate students, faculty, and staff.
In the spirit of "The Jessica Effect," graduate students are welcome to bring their families with them.
