<Title>The Language and Social Interaction Working Group (LANSI)</Title>
<Tagline>Call for Proposals due June 15, 2019</Tagline>

    <div>LANSI brings together scholars and students working on naturally-occurring data within the broad area of language and social interaction. In keeping with the LANSI spirit of diversity and dialogue, we welcome abstracts from colleagues working on a variety of topics using discourse analytic approaches that include but are not limited to conversation analysis, interactional sociolinguistics, linguistic anthropology, and critical discourse analysis. <br>
    </div>
    <div><br></div>
    <div>Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words and include descriptions of the following aspects of the study: 1) problem(s) being addressed, 2) central claim(s), 3) data source(s) and analytic approach(es), 4) a short piece of data to support the main argument, 5) implication(s) of the findings. Please include a 50-word summary. Papers will be presented within a 15 or 20 minute slot with an additional 5 or 10 minutes for discussion.<br>

    <div>Deadline for electronic submission is June 15th and notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will be sent via email by July 15th. <br>

His title is: "Depictions versus Reality: Countering the television mediated narratives of Black teachers in Baltimore." Sedrick will explore the representations of Black teachers in Baltimore City Public Schools and offer a counter-narrative to the narrative constructed of such teachers on the television news segment, "Project Baltimore."</div>

<Title>Stephen Caracciolo Serves as Chorus Master for Beethoven 9</Title>

    <span>Associate Professor Stephen Caracciolo's professional choral ensemble, LancasterChorale, and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, receive a rousing standing ovation from packed houses. Caracciolo served as Chorus Master preparing LancasterChorale for performances of Beethoven's stirring Ninth Symphony under the direction of conductor David Danzmayr on May 11 and 12, 2019. The performances received a </span><a href="https://www.dispatch.com/entertainmentlife/20190512/concert-review--promusica-lancasterchorale-beethovens-9th-earns-standing-ovation" rel="nofollow external" class="bo">shining review </a><span>from Jennifer Hambrick in the early Sunday morning paper of The Columbus Dispatch. This Summer Institute initiative addresses the difficulties experienced by junior investigators and transitioning postdoctoral scientists in establishing independent academic research careers and negotiating through the academic ranks.
